Basketball fans around the world have seen in the past three years how the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers have dominated the competition in the NBA. Their consistency in having a very talented roster and the “win-now attitude” of their top brass are considered the keys to their success.

Before the start of Game 4 of the Finals, commissioner Adam Silver discussed what he thinks will happen to the league’s competitive balance in the coming seasons. He sent a message to the other league teams, via The Washington Post's Adam Kilgore, that the focus should be on developing more players to turn other teams into contenders, rather than trying to break up the two aforementioned squads.

“Rather than focusing on the top of the league, we should be focusing on the rest of the league. Rather than talking about how to break up or knock down a championship-caliber team, my focus should be on how we do a better job developing more great players in this league.”

He also acknowledged that the addition of Kevin Durant to the Dubs has paid dividends to them this season, but he hopes it will challenge the other teams to be better and raise the level of competition.

“And yes, an incredible free agent was added to that squad,” Silver said. “All the focus seems to be on, ‘They're too good' as opposed to, ‘What is it we should be doing to create more great teams in this league?' That's what my response is.”

“Let's create more great teams, rather than completely focus on one incredible team and whether that's seemingly unfair to the other team. I think it's the nature of competition. Ultimately, it's about raising the bar for all the teams in this league and celebrating excellence.”

Silver may have hinted that more “super teams” should be created, but he also believes that the talent of players in the NBA right now can challenge the Cavs and Warriors. It’s just a matter of finding their fit and working on the system their teams have in place. Should that happen, not only will the fans see more intense matchups, but the Warriors and Cavaliers will have to raise their level of play as well, if they want to continue having a strong hold in their respective conferences.
