AEW news: Kurt Angle doubles down on Chris Jericho GOAT take

Kurt Angle believes that Chris Jericho's longevity and ability to reinvent himself is the main reason why the AEW star is the GOAT wrestler.

Chris Jericho has been one of the biggest stars of the pro wrestling years for a long time now. The AEW star has been extremely popular over the last few years, thanks in large part to his charisma. His longevity has led more than a few fans to call him the greatest pro wrestler of all-time.

One of these fans was none other than Chris Jericho's former WWE colleague Kurt Angle. Angle has previously stated in Jericho's face before that he considered the latter to be the GOAT. When asked in a recent interview if he meant that, Angle detailed exactly why he thought the AEW star deserved that title. (via Wrestling Inc.)

“What he’s been able to do with his characters, changing and innovating himself and being able to be as effective as he is in the business this late in his career, at 51, 52 years of age, and being in the business for over 30 years… I put him up there with Shawn Michaels, but now, after being in AEW and doing the things he’s doing now, he has to be the greatest of all time, especially (for) the amount of years he put in.”

Few stars have been able to match Jericho's longevity in the ring. Most of the stars he worked with during his debut in 1996 have either retired or are now part-timers. Yet, Jericho has stayed in the industry and is still wrestling full-time for AEW. Even more impressive is the fact that he hasn't lost his edge in the ring.

Part of why he's been so successful in the business is his willingness to change when needed. Yes, Jericho is a talented wrestler, especially during his prime. He was able to deliver some of the best moments in the WWE. However, he was able to stay relevant not just because of his skills, but because of his character work. He has undergone several character changes in the WWE and the AEW, and he has made them work every single time.

When all is said and done, Jericho will be considered one of the best all-around wrestlers in the industry. From his in-ring work, to his characters and promo work, the man has done everything a superstar needs to do at a high level.
