AEW star and pro wrestling icon Sting made his return to AEW television on Friday’s edition of Rampage. The 63-year-old made his return following the main event match of Darby Allin vs. Bobby Fish.

Allin defeated Fish in the match. In the aftermath, Fish’s tag team partner Kyle O’Reilly came out to attack Allin. The lights went out, and Sting appeared when they came back on. He delivered a low blow with his baseball bat. In the ring, Allin delivered a Coffin Drop to Fish's ankle, which was wrapped in a chair.

Sting has been off AEW television since the May 18th episode of Dynamite. Fish, O’Reilly, and the Undisputed Elite attacked The Icon. During the beat down, O’Reilly crushed his ankle.

A week later, AEW pulled Sting from the Double or Nothing pay-per-view due to an ankle injury. The Icon’s injury has led to a feud between O’Reilly, Fish, and Allin.

At Double or Nothing, Allin lost to O’Reilly in a singles bout. Allin then teamed with Christian Cage, Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus, and Matt Hardy in a losing effort against the Undisputed Elite. Allin and O’Reilly both entered the interim AEW World Championship Contendership Casino Battle Royale, which O’Reilly won.

Sting has had one of the most illustrious careers in all of professional wrestling. Known as “The Franchise” of WCW, the 63-year-old is a six-time WCW champion. He was one of the biggest names that didn’t jump to WWE following Vince McMahon's purchase of WCW.

Sting spent time in TNA/Impact Wrestling, holding the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship once. He also won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship four times. He eventually joined WWE in 2014, but suffered an injury in 2015 that sidelined him for years.

The Icon was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016. He made his AEW debut at Winter is Coming in 2020.
