Maxwell Jacob Friedman (better known as MJF) is one of AEW's brightest stars today. The wrestler has arguably been the greatest heel in the promotion's relatively short history. His in-ring work and superb promo skills make him one of the company's biggest draws at the moment.
So when news broke out that MJF no-showed a Fanfest for AEW's Double or Nothing Pay-Per-View, fans were understandably concerned. The heel was set to take part in a match with former bodyguard Wardlow in the event. There were even rumblings that the wrestler booked a flight out of Las Vegas after his no-show.
Thankfully for the AEW, MJF never did get on that flight out of Vegas. Friedman eventually showed up for the first match of the pay-per-view, and completed his match with Wardlow without any major incidents.

As for the result of the match, MJF would lose to Wardlow in stunning fashion. Wardlow's win earns him a new contract with AEW, as per the stipulations of the match. If MJF won, Wardlow was to remain under MJF's employment and never get a new contract from the company.
What does this mean for MJF and the AEW?
Up until this moment, fans aren't quite sure what's going on between MJF and AEW. Some fans are speculating that the no-show and drama were merely a work, something to play up the intensity of the situation. This is completely possible: the promotion has made a new for itself by creating creative storylines for their talents.
However… there's a much more dire possibility, one that can shake the AEW to its very core. MJF might be unhappy with the company right now. Wrestlers often use the walk-out as a sign of protest. Just recently, Sasha Banks and Naomi of the WWE walked out of the company. Unlike MJF, though, both women have not returned to the company at the time of writing.
The possibility of MJF ditching the AEW is something to keep an eye on. The promotion already lost one of its biggest stars to WWE this year when Cody Rhodes made his return at Wrestlemania 38.
