The MMA world was in shock on December 11 as Julianna Pena beat Amanda Nunes by submission in an incredible fight at UFC 269. The champion had a bad performance and many agreed that she looked ‘off.'

Amanda Nunes recently spoke out on the fight and revealed that she was injured badly during her training camp for UFC 269. She had already pulled out once before and didn't want to do it again.

“Both knees (were) pretty bad. … Every time that I (was) training, (I went) back home, and the next day I (couldn't) even walk,” Nunes told ESPN (h/t TheScore).

“I (could not) turn, do all the things that I have to do – like do jiu-jitsu that much, wrestling. … Pretty much, I was doing only hands, like striking. Or whatever I (was) going to do for conditioning, I used only my arms,” Nunes said. “That cost me my belt.”

Amanda Nunes realized during the night of UFC 269 that her body didn't feel right. That was also apparent once the fight against Julianna Pena went into the second round.

“I was like, ‘That's not how my body (is),'” Nunes said. “I've been in this game for five years with the belt. … My body (had) never felt like that.”

Julianna Pena and Amanda Nunes are both going to coach on the UFC reality show, The Ultimate Fighter. They will be fighting each other again at the conclusion of the show.

“We all know I'm better than her. We all know I didn't show up that night,” Nunes said.

She added: “I fight a lot of girls better than her in my best shape, and I still walk away with my belt. So with Julianna, our … rematch is going to be different.”
