The Los Angeles Angels are the coldest team in MLB right now, having gone winless in their past 12 games. Having gotten off to a hot start, the Angels' recent struggles have seen them plummet down the AL West standings. Now at 27-29, sitting 8.5 games behind the division-leading Astros, the Angels have decided enough was enough. The team announced its decision to fire manager Joe Maddon on Tuesday, officially putting an end to his tenure with the club.

The Angels kept it short but sweet in their statement, informing fans that Maddon had been relieved of his duties as manager. In his place, Phil Nevin is expected to serve as interim manager.

Maddon was in the final year of his three-year contract with the Angels, having joined the club in 2020. The Angels haven't made the postseason in 2014 and were hopeful of snapping their playoff drought in 2022. While that's certainly not out of the realm of possibility, the club no longer felt that Maddon was the right man for the managerial position.

With the Angels failing to win a game thus far into the month of June, and having been crippled by their 12-game losing streak, Maddon saw himself quickly fall out of favor with the front office. Now, Nevin will be tasked with turning things around in Los Angeles and helping the talented roster get back on track towards a postseason berth.

Across three seasons in LA, including the COVID-19 shortened 2020 campaign, Maddon failed to log a winning record with the Angels. In all, he posted a 130-148 record during his tenure with the team, but ultimately failed to meet the club's expectations that they had for the 68-year-old upon signing him a few years ago.
