Anthony Joshua was hoping to defend his heavyweight title this summer against British rival Tyson Fury. However, their bout hit a legal ruling which ruined any chance of an August fight in Saudi Arabia. Now, Joshua will fight Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk in September in the UK as he looks to defend his heavyweight title, with his promoter Eddie Hearn making the announcement on Friday, via AP news.

Anthony Joshua currently owns the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles and although he really wanted to fight Fury, that will have to wait. Deontay Wilder meanwhile filed a claim that a third bout with Tyson Fury was owed to him so the two heavyweights are set to meet in Vegas in latter July.

Usyk is relatively new to this weight class. The Ukrainian stepped up from cruiserweight in 2019 but he does have a perfect 18-0 record in this boxing career, including 13 knockouts. Anthony Joshua however is the world champion and is 24-1 with a ridiculous 22 KO's.

While the world desperately wants to see two of the greatest British fighters ever step in the ring together again, it won't happen this year. This fight between Anthony Joshua and Usyk should be an entertaining one nonetheless, with both fighters having last competed in the fall of 2020. Mark September 25th on your calendars.
