Apex Legends Mobile bags nearly $5 million in its first week upon release on iOS and Android devices, with purchases made mostly in the US.

Apex Legends Mobile has been around for just two weeks, but according to Sensor Tower and as reported by gamesindustry.biz, its first week by itself has helped it rake in $4.8 million in revenue. The game was the no.1 most downloaded iPhone game in 60 countries on its release day on May 17, and the game's popularity hasn't waned since. The most installs were found in the US, followed by India and Brazil. The US alone contributed $2.1 million of the earnings. Japan and Thailand were far successors to the US in terms of player spending.

Apex Legends Mobile's revenue numbers at launch are gigantic, especially compared to how Tencent's previous similar project, PUBG Mobile, performed in the app market. PUBG Mobile launched with only around $600,000 on its first week of monetization. However, both are still dwarfed by Call of Duty: Mobile's massive $14.8 million debut.

Still, it seems that EA, Respawn Entertainment, and Tencent all did well in making a mobile adaptation of their hit free-to-play battle royale games. Among the many incentives, players got from playing the mobile version is the mobile-first release of the new Legend Fade, which comes to PC and consoles at a yet-unspecified date. With a new legend specifically designed for mobile, Apex Legends Mobile quickly makes itself distinct from its PC and console counterparts. However, this is both a strength and a weakness, as development would now need to consider both versions of the game, would need to justify why certain Legends may or may not appear on a platform, and overall, will divide the player base further based on their platform of choice.

In any case, it's very unlikely that Apex Legends Mobile will lose any steam soon. The game, just like its PC and console counterparts, is free-to-play with microtransactions. Being this accessible, players will likely drop in and out of the game between seasons, if not completely getting engrossed for the entire season.
