Antoine Griezmann made a shocking move back to Atletico Madrid on deadline day, leaving Barcelona on a loan spell with an option to buy. However, the Frenchman has taken a substantial hit to his wages in order to reunite with his former club, according to Goal.
Griezmann is now getting paid 40% less than his salary at Barca, but Atletico didn't pay a dime to acquire him on loan. However, Diego Simeone's side could give the Catalan giants €40 million if they want Griezmann back at the Wanda Metropolitano on a full-time basis next summer.
The France international struggled to really fit in at Barcelona after leaving Atletico Madrid in 2019. He didn't get to play his natural position because of Lionel Messi, scoring just 35 goals in 102 appearances despite making the €120 million move from Atletico. With Messi gone now and Griezmann on his way out, for the time being, Ronald Koeman won't have the same options in the final third. A lot more with be expected of Memphis Depay, who has enjoyed a flying start to his Barca career thus far.
Atletico Madrid will be pleased to have Griezmann back though and will be hoping the familiarity with the squad can help him find his scoring touch and thrive up top alongside Luis Suarez as they aim to repeat as La Liga champions this season.
