Why The Avalanche Will Win

The Avalanche will be without Artturi Lehkonen for the foreseeable future after a scary injury against the Kraken the last time these two faced off. That will be three goals and five assists that the Avalanche need to replace in this game. Meanwhile, there are the players who can put up the production to help replace him. Mikko Rantanen is the team leader in goals and points this year. He has nine goals and ten assists this year for a total of 19 points. He has been solid on the power play this year, with three goals and three assists on the power play.

Joining him on that top line are Nathan MacKinnon and Valeri Nichushkin. MacKinnon comes in with six goals and nine assists this year for a total of 15 points on the year. Meanwhile, Nichushkin comes in with two goals and six assists to sit tied for fourth on the team in points this year. Cale Makar has continued to be solid this year. He is second on the team in points this year while leading the team in assists. He comes in with three goals and 13 assists on the year. Meanwhile, he has a goal and five assists on the power play.

The Avalanche would like to produce more on the power play this year. They are 24th in the NHL in converting on the power play, with just eight goals and a 16.3 percent conversion rate. Still, they have been solid when manned down this year. They are seventh in the NHL in penalty kill rate this year, with an 85.2 percent kill rate.

The Avalanche are expected to start Alexandar Georgiev in the goal tonight. He is 7-4-0 with a 3.29 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage. Georgiev was awful last time out, allowing six goals on 28 shots in a loss. Further, in his last three games, he has allowed 16 goals on just 85 shots, good for a .812 save percentage.

Why The Kraken Will Cover Win

The Kraken have three guys this year over ten points this season. That starts with Jaden Schwartz. He comes into the game with eight goals, which leads the team, and six assists, to give him a team-leading 14 points this year. Further, he has been great on the power play this year, with given goals and two assists this year on the power play. Meanwhile, blue-line player Vince Dunn has been great as well. He comes into the game with two goals and 11 assists this year. Further, he has also been great on the power play with a goal and six assists.

Adding to the offense this year is Olvier Bjorkstrand. He sits third on the team in points this year with six goals and another six assists this year. He too has also been solid on the power play with two goals and three assists this year. The Kraken are hoping for some more production from Matty Beniers. He has just one goal this year, with six assists to have seven points overall.

The Kraken have been solid on the power play this year. They are sitting seventh in the NHL this year with a 26.7 percent conversion percentage. They have scored on the power play in each of their last seven games now, going 3-2-1 in that time frame. Meanwhile, they have been giving up a fair amount when man-down. They have given up goals when man down in six of the last seven games.

The Kraken is expected to send Phillip Gruabauer to guard the net today. He is 3-6-0 on the year with a 3.37 goals-against average and a .891 save percentage. Last time out he allowed four goals on just 17 shots taking the loss after playing just one period against the Oilers. He has allowed three or more goals in five of the last six games overall. In the four starts this month, he has just a .877 save percentage, but still has a 2-2-0 record in that time.

Final Avalanche-Kraken Prediction & Pick

The Kraken come into the game allowing 3.40 goals per game and scoring just 2.60 goals per game. Meanwhile, the Avalanche are averaging 3.23 goals per game this year. Still, this game just played out, and the Kraken came away with a win. Both teams have goalies in the net tonight who have been struggling heavily. Neither team is playing well as of late, both with bad losses recently. Still, the Avalanche are the better team overall. They will score enough to get the win in this one.

Final Avalanche-Kraken Prediction & Pick: Avalanche ML (-156)
