Kylian Mbappe appears to be on the verge of signing for Real Madrid after his contract at PSG runs its course. The French superstar has long been linked with a move to Madrid, and is expected to make that a reality in the coming days. Los Blancos are reportedly paying a king's ransom to Mbappe to secure his services, as he's expected to play on a salary worth as much as €50 million ($52 million) per season. Barcelona president Joan Laporta took a shot at Real Madrid and Mbappe's bonkers salary when asked about the player, via Fabrizio Romano.

“We'd never consider to sign a player who asks for €50,000,000 net per season as salary,” said the Barcelona president.

While Laporta is attempting to throw shade at Barcelona's arch-rivals, his comments are certainly baffling considering the nature of Barcelona's rampant spending left the team in a disastrous financial situation. Rumors suggested that Lionel Messi was making vastly more than the €50,000,000 Mbappe is rumored to be in line to make at Madrid, so it's certainly confusing to hear the Barca president attempt to weigh in on finances.

Fans were quick to point out the irony in Laporta's comments, referencing Messi's absurd wages during his later years at Barcelona.

Laporta may want to do a bit more self-reflecting before firing shots over at Real Madrid for their big-money signing. While €50 million is a massive sum, Barcelona themselves are more than guilty of paying well over top dollar to star players. To blatantly say the club would “never” consider signing someone at that cost is just a flat out lie from Laporta, who is likely a bit nervous about the idea of facing Mbappe at least twice a year.
