It's finally happened. Barcelona legend Xavi Hernandez finally makes a long-awaited return to Camp Nou as the next Barca manager following Ronald Koeman's disastrous stint.

There were initial reports of Xavi's Qatari side, Al-Sadd, refusing to let the Barcelona legend rejoin his beloved club after Barca delegates came over to finalize an agreement with all parties involved. However, the air has been cleared—according to Fabrizio Romano, Xavi is now confirmed to be the next Barcelona manager.

Again, it was not as straightforward as it initially seemed. Al-Sadd had come out with a statement stating that Xavi would not be allowed to leave, and it would be more than ideal if he remained in Qatar to finish the season. Nonetheless, Barca remained persistent and confident that they would be able to bring Xavi back home to Camp Nou.

They succeeded in their mission, but it wasn't without any consequence. Barca had to pay Al Sadd $5.7 million to trigger Xavi's release clause—resulting in the termination and release of the former Barca captain.

Al Sadd chief executive Turki Ali-Ali revealed that Xavi had an intense desire to rejoin the Blaugrana especially amid their crises on and off the pitch.

Via BBC Sport:

“Xavi informed us a few days ago of his desire to go to Barcelona at this particular time, because of the critical stage his hometown club is going through, and we understand this and decided not to stand in his way,” said Al Sadd chief executive Turki Al-Ali.

This could be the all-important step in resurrecting Barcelona back to its former glory and Barca fans could not be happier to have one of the best midfielders of all time back in their club.
