Barcelona officially hit a new low on Wednesday as they failed to progress to the Champions League group stages, which puts them into Europa for the first time ever. The club needed a victory against Bayern, but instead, the German champions dismantled them by three goals.

By no surprise, manager Xavi wasn't pleased with the result and he sent his team a very stern message. Via Sky Sports:

“Bayern dominated us,” he said. “We always want to dominate but it was the opposite here. We must demand more. We're Barca. This must be a point of inflection to change the dynamic and many more things.

“This is the Champions League, but this is also our reality. It's the situation Barcelona is in. I'm angry. This is the reality and it p***es me off. We have to tackle it face on. There's nothing else for it.”

It's frankly been a miserable season thus far for the La Liga giants, sitting in seventh spot in Spain and a whole 16 points behind league leaders Real Madrid. They only managed to win two games in Group E and were outplayed by Bayern on both occasions.

The hope was that Xavi could come in and turn things around after the sacking of Ronald Koeman, but it will undoubtedly take time. Now, Barcelona sets its eyes on the Europa League. It's likely their best chance at winning any hardware this term.
