Barcelona has set its sights on FC Porto’s Luis Diaz, an attacker whom Tottenham Hotspur has been tracking for years.

The departure of Lionel Messi has seen Barcelona mixing and matching things up in their hopes to fill the void left by the Argentine.

There has been a wide array of targets linked to Barcelona but among the latest to be mentioned is FC Porto attacking midfielder Luis Diaz, Spanish outlet Fichajes reported.

According to the report, Diaz has been drawing attention from top European clubs with Barcelona one of the most interested. Aside from the Catalans, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich was also said to be monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation.

Last month, Portuguese outlet Maisfutebol reported that Diaz is also being courted by English Premier League clubs Chelsea and Tottenham with the latter is said to have been keeping tabs on him for years now.

Diaz rose to prominence after he impressed in this year’s Copa America tournament. He finished the tournament equaling Messi’s tally of four goals.

Despite the apparent interest from suitors, Diaz’s agent Carlos Van Strahalen had earlier said that “there is nothing concrete” in terms of transfer talks involving his client at this point.

“Clearly, with the great Copa América that Luis [Diaz] did, the interest of the clubs has increased, but at the moment there is nothing concrete and the player continues to enjoy his holidays with his family and friends,” Van Strahalen said.

“Since before the Copa there were several clubs closely following Luis’s process thanks to the good numbers he has registered in his two seasons in Portugal, but it is not a secret that after the tournament interest has increased, but they have been just approaches,” he added.
