The injuries keep coming for the Chicago Bears.

First, it was quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Then, it was offensive lineman Kyle Long. Now, it's a member of the side of the football where the Bears excel better than almost any other team in the NFL.

According to 670 The Score, Chicago has placed defensive lineman Akiem Hicks on the injured reserve list due to an elbow injury, meaning that Hicks will miss at least eight weeks.

“We're hoping that he's definitely able to return here by the season's end,” said Bears head coach Matt Nagy. “We'll find out exactly where that's at. That's our goal. … It is a tough loss, but it's part of the game. We understand it. He understands it. And we just got to keep plugging away.”

The problem is that Chicago needs to actually make it to that point before it can get Hicks back.

The Bears have gone 3-2 over their first five games, losing their season opener to the Green Bay Packers and then ripping off three straight wins before suffering a miserable Week 5 loss to the Oakland Raiders in London.

Given that Chicago plays in the rugged NFC North division, the Bears can't afford to slip up, and the more injuries they sustain, the tougher it becomes for them to hold up.

Akiem Hicks has played in four games this season, logging six tackles and a sack. He is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he made his first Pro Bowl after racking up 55 tackles, 7.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and five passes defended.
