Former Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher made headlines for all the wrong reasons with his comments in the aftermath of the shooting of Jacob Blake. It appears both his former team and teammates are now doing what they can to distance themselves from him.

Urlacher posted a text on his Instagram story that featured a rather moot comparison of adversity between Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre and NBA players protesting the playoffs in the aftermath of Blake's shooting. Ex-Bears running back and former teammate Matt Forte took to Twitter to blast the comments that were made:

“The comment [Urlacher] posted is void of empathy, compassion, wisdom and coherence. But full of pride and ignorance!” Forte tweeted, via Sporting News. “I pray for those who have been blinded by their wealth, privilege and earthly fame that breeds arrogance in their hearts. And those who refuse to acknowledge racism and injustice but instead choose to place their energy into justifying it by quickly judging the victims [sic] life as if they themselves are more valuable because their sins are different or weren’t caught by man… but God sees all.”

There was a time when these two players were united by the same cause in Chicago during their time as teammates from 2008-12. However, it is clear that they could not be any more opposed due to the comments shared by Brian Urlacher.

Teams and players around the league continue to determine their looming course of action with the start of the 2020 NFL season just weeks away. Meanwhile, former players like Forte continue to hold their former peers accountable in the discussion regarding racial injustice and police brutality.
