Darrion Caldwell finds himself in a tough spot as he's on a two-fight losing heading into Bellator 273. The bantamweight MMA fighter is set to take on Enrique Barzola in an attempt to get back on track and remind people why he was champion, to begin with.
Darrion Caldwell heads into the fight set to compete with his fairly new MMA team. He's been training with Henri Hooft and Greg Jones in Florida for about a year at Sanford MMA.
“I've been extremely focused this fight camp,” Caldwell told ClutchPoints. “Obviously, coming off of two losses, it's a sense to write your wrongs. I've been really trying to make adjustments under the tutelege of Henri Hooft and Greg Jones, trying to put more eggs in my basket. So down here in Flordia we're just going crazy on the training. We just put in that work.”
Henri Hooft has a very unique coaching style as he can be seen yelling at fighters and getting heated. Not everyone can deal with an MMA coach that uses that kind of style.
“It just shows us that he cares. He really wants the best for everyone collectively. To have a head coach like that. It just puts things in perspective as to why we're such a powerhouse. It starts at the top and it trickles down. Henri, he's the guy that's here early, he's leaving late. So to see that from the head honcho, it really puts things in perspective.”
Darrion Caldwell has a very different mindset compared to when he lost for the first time in MMA. He understands it's a part of the sport and nothing is going to stop him from achieving his goal.
The Bellator bantamweight has his eyes set on becoming champion again and breaking records. Darrion Caldwell keeps that mindset as he looks to erase the losses on his MMA record.
“We all lose. They won't really dictate who I am moving forward and what I'm capable of. I'm not gonna let three judges control the narrative of me being a champion. I know there's always gonna be stepping stones and roadblocks but that's what we're human for. I ain't perfect, but I'm fucking good at fighting. I tell you that. I just want to want to continue to make a name here at Bellator. I want to break some records, continue to break records, and get that shot.”
Darrion Caldwell is set to take on Enrique Barzola at Bellator 273 on January 29. The fight is set to take place at bantamweight and will be very important for Caldwell as he looks to get back on track in his MMA career.
