The fans of the Cincinnati Bengals have long been awaiting the return of A.J. Green this season, but they'll have to wait a bit longer. According to ESPN's Ben Baby, Green suffered a setback in his ankle injury recovery and will be out indefinitely.

On Wednesday, Zac Taylor shared his belief that Green would make his season debut in Week 10 against the Baltimore Ravens. Then, just a day later, the veteran wide receiver began to experience some swelling in his ankle.

Therefore, Green missed practice and is back on the mend once again. It remains to be seen what his current timetable to return is, but he has already been ruled out for this Sunday's contest.

Green suffered the ankle injury back at the beginning of training camp. The seven-time Pro Bowler was required to undergo surgery and was expected to miss the first couple of months of the season.

Now, there's no definitive plan for Green to return to the offense in the near future. This setback comes at an extremely unfortunate time with Green in a contract year in Cincinnati.

At 31 years old and with injuries plaguing him in recent years, it's hard to envision Green commanding a lucrative contract. Nevertheless, the Bengals' No. 1 wide receiver is hoping to get back out on the field at some point in 2019 so he can help himself in free agency.

While Green continues to miss time, rookie Ryan Finley will have a decimated offensive group to work with in his first career start in the NFL on Sunday.
