Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow missed practice on Wednesday. Burrow dislocated his pinky finger in Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. However, he is still expected to play Sunday in a pivotal matchup against another playoff hopeful, the San Francisco 49ers.

NBC Sports' Charean Williams reported on the injury.

“We won’t have him throw today, just to give it one more day to rest and see where we’re at tomorrow, make a decision there,” Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Wednesday, via James Rapien of SI.com. “It’s a little bit of an unknown until he gets out there and does it. But he’s a tough guy. He played through it. We’re optimistic that he’ll be back to practice (this week) and get some good work in.”

His toughness was on full display as Burrow injured the finger on the Bengals first possession of the game Sunday. He didn't miss a play.

Burrow attempted to put a glove on during the game but was unable. This week, the temperate in Paul Brown Stadium is expected to be in the 40's, which might make it more difficult for Burrow to grip the ball.

A number of key players for the Bengals were also unable to practice Wednesday, including running back Joe Mixon, wide receiver Tee Higgins and cornerback Chidobe Awuzie. It is unclear if any or all would miss the game.

San Francisco comes to town in a crucial game for both teams. The Bengals are 7-5, one game behind Baltimore for the AFC North lead and are tied with the Chargers and Bills for the wild card spots. Meanwhile, the 49ers are 6-6 and currently hold the final wild card spot in the NFC.
