The Cincinnati Bengals appear to be in the midst of some significant changes on the offensive side of the ball. With all the questions surrounding the state of the offense, the presence of running back Giovani Bernard's agent in Cincinnati started to raise plenty of speculation regarding his future.

As a result, rumors about a potential trade had started to swirl. But according to Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, the Bengals have no plans on trading Bernard:

So, I followed up on some of this to see if I missed anything. I can confirm there are no plans to trade Bernard. In fact, if anything were to happen with Bernard it would be an extension as he enters his contract year.

Bernard is entering the final year of his current deal, which may have attributed to the prospect of him being traded. Regardless, that does not appear to be the case.

The 28-year-old had once been part of a solid 1-2 punch in Cincinnati. The arrival of running back Joe Mixon essentially spurred the Bengals' coaching staff to rely much more on a single workhorse to do their bidding. While Mixon still appears to have a stranglehold on most touches coming out of the backfield, Bernard can still make for a decent complimentary option.

The 2019 NFL season will be a bit of a deciding year for the veteran. The Bengals invested two sixth-round picks on running backs Trayveon Williams and Rodney Anderson in the 2019 NFL Draft. The team will have the benefit of a year to decide whether or not to keep Bernard around.
