In just his second season in the league, Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow pulled off the unthinkable and took his team all the way to the Super Bowl for the first time in more than 30 years. While they ultimately fell short, many fellow players are taking notice of just how special Burrow really is.
Following the Los Angeles Rams' victory, veteran Eric Weddle, who came out of retirement for the playoff run, had nothing but good words to say about the Bengals signal-caller.
“I was obviously impressed,” Weddle said. “I mean, you don’t lead a team to the Super Bowl if you’re not all about it, right? And I just love his mentality, I love his moxie, I love him. He’s all ball and he’s not into the social media B.S. He’s not into the limelight. He’s not into what everyone else thinks. He just silently goes to work, and it’s refreshing to see. And obviously, I mean they’re gonna be good for a long time. His moment wasn’t tonight, but he’ll get his moment.”
His moment will undoubtedly come again. We have to also remember Burrow's rookie season with the Bengals was cut short after tearing his ACL. Yet, he returned with a vengeance and proved exactly why he was the number one overall pick in 2020.
The former LSU standout completed 22 of 33 passes for 263 yards in SB 56, connecting with Tee Higgins for his lone passing touchdown on the day. While it's certainly heartbreaking to lose in the biggest game of his life, Joe Burrow has a long career ahead. The Bengals also have a fantastic core, so there is no questioning they will be in the depths of the playoffs again. This is just the start.
