The Cincinnati Bengals defensive line depth was handed a bit of a blow with defensive tackle Niles Scott being played on injured reserve. The team announced the move on Twitter on Thursday morning.

Scott suffered a foot injury on July 31st and has been seen walking around practice in a walking boot. The team hasn't disclosed exactly what the injury is. Scott was an undrafted free agent last out of Frostburg State and spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos before the Bengals signed him off the Broncos practice squad. After signing with the Bengals, Scott appeared in six games and made four tackles.

It wasn't a guarantee that he would make the team this year, but after his showing last season it seemed like he had a pretty good shot.

On the Bengals first depth chart released, Scott was listed behind Geno Atkins and Ryan Glasgow. Andrew Billings and Josh Tupou are also expected to compete for a roster spot and they should have an easier path with Scott not eligible for a spot.

The only thing to decide with Scott for the Bengals is if they will keep him on their injured list all season. The team could release him with an injury designation but if the team might want him on the team next season it would make sense for them to keep him on the IR.

This has to be disappointing for Scott who could have been a solid part of the Bengals defense this upcoming season.
