Why The Astros Will Cover The Spread/Win

Ronel Blanco has been very good this season for the Astros. As mentioned above, his ERA, WHIP, and record are all great. One thing to focus on is his opponent batting average. His oxBA is a little bit higher, but it is still very good. Blanco does a great job limiting the hits, and limiting the hard contact. That needs to continue in this game if the Astros want to make their way back towards the .500 mark. Expect him to have a good outing in this game.

The Astros are actually a very good hitting team. They are second in batting average, fourth in slugging percentage, and they strikeout the least in the MLB. They are tough outs up and down the lineup, and that has shown this season. With Kyle Tucker, Jose Altuve, and Yordan Alvarez, the Astros are one of the top home run hitting teams in the MLB, as well. If they can get hot off Hicks in this game, they will be able to pull of the victory.

Why The Giants Will Cover The Spread/Win

Jordan Hicks is having just as good of a season as Ronel Blanco. Hicks is not striking out as many batters as you would expect, but he has molded into a true starting pitcher, and he is doing a great job at it. Hicks has been a massive ground ball pitcher this season, which is important for this game. His ground ball percentage is over 50 percent, which is one of the highest in the MLB. The Astros love to elevate, and they love to do it with power as mentioned before. If Hicks can keep the Astros on the ground in this game, the Giants will have a great chance to win Tuesday night.

The Astros have a good offense, but there are some things they really struggle with. Houston has the third-highest chase percentage at the plate, and the second-highest first pitch swing percentage. Hicks has to use that to his advantage. Starting the Astros off with some off-speed out of the zone, and getting them to chase is going to be huge. Houston will get themselves out at the plate, so Hicks just has to let them.

Final Astros-Giants Prediction & Pick

I love this pitching matchup. These are two very good pitchers, and I am expecting both offenses to struggle. However, I like Jordan Hicks just a bit more in this game. I will take the Giants to win this game straight up at home.
