The Richmond Spiders brought a senior-laden roster into this season. The college basketball odds were supposed to work in their favor. A veteran team with widely-recognized talent was supposed to get to the NCAA Tournament under coach Chris Mooney, who has been at Richmond since 2005 but has not reached the Big Dance since 2011. Yet, Richmond struggled this season, finishing sixth in the Atlantic 10. When Richmond fell behind Rhode Island by 14 points in the first round of the A-10 Tournament, the Atlantic 10 championship odds were stacked against the Spiders.
Yet, if you have been watching Championship Week in college basketball, you know that teams which seemed to be dead and buried have found ways to rise from the grave and turn their whole seasons around. Indiana was down 17 to Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament, seemingly bound for the NIT. The Hoosiers came back to win and will be in the NCAA Tournament. Virginia Tech was down to its last shot against Clemson in the ACC Tournament but hit a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to survive. A few days later, the Hokies won the ACC Tournament and will go Dancing. Richmond is one win away from writing that same story. It's a potent force the Spiders are playing with. Keep that in mind when making a Richmond Davidson prediction.
The Davidson Wildcats have one of the best coaches in America. Bob McKillop turned Stephen Curry into a collegiate superstar and almost guided the small college in North Carolina to the Final Four in 2008. He guided Davidson from the Southern Conference to the Atlantic 10, a significant step up in the college basketball world, and has made the Wildcats the best team in that league, a testament to his coaching chops. This year's Davidson team has blended together beautifully; McKillop assembled transfer portal pieces with great skill and expertise, creating another precise and effective offense which is a headache to play against. Davidson's spot in the NCAA Tournament is already secure, but the Wildcats' quality is something to absorb when thinking about a Richmond Davidson pick.

Why Richmond Could Cover the Spread
The Spiders got out of jail in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Tournament against Rhode Island. Since then, they have played like a completely different team, beating good teams from VCU and Dayton. Like Virginia Tech, this team is on a roll, and it's going to be hard for Davidson — as good as the Wildcats are — to stop that surge.
Why Davidson Could Cover the Spread
Some people thought the Wildcats might have come to this tournament lacking in hunger, since they had already punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament in most eyes, but the Wildcats have played like a team intent on winning this tournament. If they continue to play well, they will have answers for Richmond.
Final Richmond-Davidson Prediction & Pick
Davidson might win outright, but Richmond has shown it can take a punch and punch back. The Spiders' seniors are going to fight until the final seconds. Getting four points makes the Spiders the better choice.
Final Richmond-Davidson Pick: Richmond +4
