The Athletics make the trip to Houston to face the Astros! The Astros are playing better recently and then the Brewers are playing very well so far this season. Both teams are on a winning streak overall, so this game should be a big one. Our MLB odds series has our Brewers-Astros prediction, odds, and pick for Friday.
The Brewers have been very good this season with a 26-17 record, ranking fourth in the NL. Their offense has been the biggest key to their success. Their bats are a top 10 unit in the MLB, while their pitching is in the middle of the pack. William Contreras, Rhys Hoskins, Sal Frelick, Brice Turang, Jackson Chourio, and Willy Adames have led the way for the Brewers behind the plate, making this offense extremely hard to play against. Freddy Peralta and Colin Rea have been the biggest keys on the mound and both have been great overall. The Brewers have shown that they have the talent to compete in the loaded NL this season.
The Astros have opened this season struggling, but they are playing much better recently. They have an 18-25 record and they have won six out of their last seven games and have won four straight heading into this series. Despite their struggles, their offense has been nothing short of great with the second batting average as a team in the league behind only the Dodgers. Jose Altuve, Kyle Tucker, Jeremy Pena, Yainer Diaz, and Yordan Alvarez have been great for Houston behind the plate. The issues are all on the mound where they have struggled across the board. Ronel Blanco, Framber Valdez, and Justin Verlander have stood out on a struggling staff. The Astros have talent and seem like they might finally be putting it together, slowly but surely.

Why The Brewers Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Brewers are starting Freddy Peralta on the mound and he has a 3-1 record, a 3.63 ERA, and a 1.05 WHIP. He has allowed 18 runs on 31 hits with 16 walks and 58 strikeouts through 44.2 innings. In his eight appearances this season, the Brewers are 7-1. In his last start, he pitched six innings and allowed three runs on eight hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in a Brewers win. Peralta has been very good but gets a tough matchup against the Astros and their great offense.
The offense for the Brewers has been very good this season. The Brewers are fourth in team batting average at .259, as compared to their finishing last season with a .240 batting average. William Contreras and Rhys Hoskins lead the way for the Brewers in most of the batting categories. Contreras leads with a batting average of .359, in RBI at 34, in OBP at .434, and in total hits at 61. Hoskins then leads in home runs at nine still despite his injury. They have a favorable matchup against Hunter Brown on the mound for the Astros.
Why The Astros Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Astros are starting Hunter Brown on the mound. He has a 0-4 record, a 7.79 ERA, and a 2.01 WHIP. Brown has allowed 29 runs on 47 hits with 18 walks and 36 strikeouts through 32.1 innings up to this point in the season. In his eight appearances for Houston, the Astros are 1-7. In his last start, he pitched five innings and allowed one run on five hits with zero walks and seven strikeouts in an Astros loss. Brown has contributed to the Astros' pitching struggles and this is not a good matchup overall for him against an offense as good as the Brewers behind the plate.
The offense for the Astros has been one of the best in the MLB so far this season. They are second in batting average at .261 after they finished last season with a .259 batting average. Jeremy Pena and Kyle Tucker lead the Astros in almost every important batting category. Pena leads the way in the current batting average at .333 and in total hits at 55. Then, Tucker leads in home runs at 13, in RBI at 29, and in OBP at .403. To show how potent this offense has been, at least 10 Astros have hit a minimum of one home run. This offense has had to carry them this season and that will be no different in this game against a pitcher as good as Freddy Peralta for the Brewers.
Final Brewers-Astros Prediction & Pick
The Astros have been red-hot recently winning six out of their last seven games and have won four straight overall. The Brewers are one of the best teams in the MLB and have won two straight on their heading into this series. The difference is pitching and Peralta is a very good pitcher that can slow down the Astros offense, while the Brewers should play well against Hunter Brown due to all his struggles this season. Expect the Brewers to win and cover on the road.
