Coco Gauff takes on Elisabetta Cocciaretto at the French Open. Our French Open odds series has our Gauff Cocciaretto prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Gauff Cocciaretto.
The 2024 French Open moves into the fourth round and the second week of the fortnight in Paris. Coco Gauff, the U.S. Open champion and the 2022 Roland Garros runner-up (losing to Iga Swiatek in the final), has done well in the first week. None of her three matches have been overly dramatic or long. She has taken care of opponents efficiently and not wasted time on court. That's how a major champion should go about her business. Gauff is a better hardcourt player than a clay-court player, but she has adapted really well to clay for two basic reasons: First, she is patient. Gauff does not show an itchy trigger finger with her shots. She doesn't go for the wild and crazy “showtime” winner. She tries to play percentage tennis, keeping the ball in the court. She is an example of the timeless tennis truth that one can win a match by not missing shots, as opposed to making shots. There's a difference. Some players are always attacking and trying to hit the brilliant, angled, creative winner. Other players rely on keeping the ball in play and forcing opponents to be as consistent as she is. Gauff is that kind of player, someone who will force opponents to beat her. She is generally not going to beat herself. She will make sure opponents have to hit four, five or six extra shots just to win one point.
The other reason Gauff does well on clay is that the slower surface rewards great defensive players who exhibit more court coverage. Gauff covers the court as well as anyone on the WTA Tour, if not better. She is very fast, and she has long strides which enable her to get to the ball more easily than others. Defense is such a big advantage for Gauff, and she uses it well.

Why Coco Gauff Could Cover The Spread
The spread of 5.5 games for this match means that if Gauff wins both sets 6-3, or can split the difference and win 6-4, 6-2, she will cover. As long as she can win two sets by a wider margin than 6-4, she will cover. Given how good she is, and given that Cocciaretto, while a fine clay-court player, does not have nearly the same overall talent as Gauff, taking Coco minus 5.5 games seems like a solid play here.
Why Elisabetta Cocciaretto Could Cover The Spread
If Cocciaretto can win four games in each set, she will cover. If she wins four games in one set and three games in the other set, that's 12 games to seven, which means the Italian will cover the +5.5 game spread. Cocciaretto is not a brilliant all-surface tennis player, but like a lot of Italian and European players, she is very comfortable on clay and is better here than on hardcourts or Wimbledon grass. That could give her an extra edge in this matchup, just enough to cover.
Final Coco Gauff-Elisabetta Cocciaretto Prediction & Pick
The price is not great for this choice, but Gauff under 12.5 games at -168 gives you a really good chance of winning. You're not getting a tremendous payout, but your chances of cashing a ticket are greater. Gauff under 12.5 games means she could lose four games in a set yet still cash your ticket as long as she avoids needing seven games to win a set. A 6-4, 6-4 result means Gauff wins under 12.5 games. Cocciaretto could keep each set close, and yet Gauff would still win the bet.
Final Coco Gauff-Elisabetta Cocciaretto Prediction & Pick: Gauff under 12.5 games
