Kansas is in the driver's seat in the Big 12 after hammering Baylor this past Saturday. If you were wondering, along with college basketball odds analysts, how Kansas would respond to the blowout loss versus Kentucky in the Big 12-SEC Challenge from late January, you got a very clear answer this past week. Kansas won twice and obliterated Baylor, the defending Big 12 and national champion, in Phog Allen Fieldhouse. Everything clicked for the Jayhawks, who displayed a high level of energy and played the way a blue-blood should play on its home floor. It's true that Baylor was limited by injuries to key cogs Adam Flagler and L.J. Cryer, but Kansas demolished the Bears and did exactly what it was supposed to do. If this is the version of Kansas which shows up in March, Bill Self has a great shot at another Final Four. Keep this in mind when making your Kansas Texas prediction.

Texas is not a bad team by any means. The Longhorns have wins over Tennessee, Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Stanford, and they have not been overpowered by the Big 12. However, Texas also doesn't have a high-end win on its schedule. Kansas would finally check that box. It has been a bumpy ride for coach Chris Beard in Austin. His offense has not meshed on a regular basis. He pulled in some high-profile transfers who, if we are being honest, have not reached their ceilings and can play better than they have to this point. Texas could not shoot well under Shaka Smart, and that has largely continued under Beard. Texas lost to Texas Tech last week and is not in the top three of the Big 12. This is clearly an NCAA Tournament team, but it is just as clearly not going to be a top-three seed in the Big Dance. That's noticeably less than what Longhorn fans were hoping for this season. A discussion about Texas Tech's run to the 2019 title game has emerged: Was it Beard, or actually current Red Raider coach Mark Adams, who was more responsible for that achievement? It's all anyone can talk about in the state of Texas when college basketball odds are brought up.

Why Kansas Could Cover the Spread

The Jayhawks beat Baylor so badly that their starters were able to get a rest late in the Saturday game. If you're worried about KU's ability to quickly turn around and play this game on a Monday, you shouldn't be. Texas also struggles on offense, as we noted above.

Why Texas Could Cover the Spread

The Longhorns are due for a big win. That sounds more like a fan than an analyst talking, but really: Is Chris Beard going to not beat Kansas or Baylor at home this season? Is he not going to get a single top-tier Big 12 win in Year 1? The college basketball odds should not stand in the way of Texas getting at least one big conference victory in 2022.

Final Kansas-Texas Prediction & Pick

Texas might be due for a big win, but Kansas is playing better basketball. It's not an easy game to pick, and it is essentially a coin flip, as the odds indicate, but Kansas does inspire more trust than a Texas team which can blow hot and cold.

Final Kansas-Texas Pick: Kansas -1.5
