The Texas Longhorns are set to square off against the Oklahoma Sooners Tuesday night. You can check out our college basketball odds series, which includes our Oklahoma-Texas prediction, odds and pick we have laid out below.
Both Texans and Oklahoma enter Tuesday night's matchup 12-3 on the season. Both are also 2-1 early on in Big 12 play. The Longhorns are ranked #21 in the country in the most recent poll. Oklahoma is unranked, but with a win Tuesday in Texas, the Sooners likely could make a leap into the top 25.
Texas is coming off their first loss in conference, losing to Oklahoma State 64-51 on Saturday. The loss dropped the Longhorns seven spots from #14. Texas struggled from the field vs. the stout Cowboys defense. They shot 39 percent from the field, and only 27 percent from downtown.
Meanwhile, the Sooners have been ascending lately. They have won five of their last six games, with their only loss coming against the #1 team in the country, Baylor, last week. Oklahoma won all three games against ranked opponents outside of Baylor.
This game features one of the better three point shooting teams in Oklahoma against the tough, defensive minded Texas Longhorns squad.

Why Oklahoma Could Cover the Spread
Article Continues BelowThe Sooners have by the far the better offensive squad. Oklahoma forward Tanner Groves is averaging better than 14 points per game, while Sooners guard Umoja Gibson is just over 13 per game. Both of those numbers are better than anyone the Longhorns have on their side.
If this game is higher scoring than expected, it heavily favors Oklahoma. The Sooners are shooting an astounding 51 percent from the field this season. Groves and Gibson shoot 40 and 38 percent respectively from downtown.
If Oklahoma is getting shots to drop Tuesday night, they should absolutely cover the spread, if not win the game outright.
Why Texas Could Cover the Spread
Texas boasts one of the better defensive units on college basketball this season. The Longhorns average a shade under nine steals per game at 8.9. That's among the best in the country. When they record eight or more steals, Texas is 10-0 this season. Meanwhile, Oklahoma has been shaky handling the ball. They rank 300th in the nation in turnover percentage, turning the ball over on 21 percent of their possessions. That does not bode well for Oklahoma.
Final Oklahoma Texas Prediction And Pick
It's a rivalry game between two good college basketball programs. I expect this game to be close most of the way. As mentioned before, the Sooners have a good shot at winning the game straight up if they get their outside shots to fall. But that is always more difficult to do on the road, particularly at your rival's school. In a relatively low scoring game, I believe it will come down to the final few minutes and be a couple possession game. But miss shots and free throws from Texas should put the game away, helping them cover the spread, 65-57.
Final Oklahoma Texas Pick: Texas -6.5
