Why NC State Could Cover the Spread
On Saturday, the NC State Wolfpack will look to carry their momentum into this road matchup against the Demon Deacons. The Wolfpack are coming off a 28-14 victory against Florida State last weekend. They scored a touchdown in every quarter and shut out the Seminoles in the first half of the game. NC State racked up 400 total yards of offense, including 314 yards through the air. Sophomore quarterback Devin Leary has been the catalyst for this Wolfpack offense. Leary has thrown for 2,475 passing yards and 25 touchdowns with just three interceptions on the season. He will be facing a Wake Forest defense that 546 yards of total offense to UNC last week.

Defensively, the Wolfpack have been excellent this season. They rank in the top 10 in opponent yards per game, giving up 337.2 yards to opponents. On third down, the Wolfpack rank 3rd in conversion percentage at just 27%. Linebacker Drake Thomas leads the defense with 74 total tackles, four sacks, and a pair of interceptions. Over the last six conference games, the Wolfpack is 5-1 against the spread. Wake Forest is 1-4 against the spread in their previous five games following a loss.
Why Wake Forest Could Cover the Spread
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons are having a season to remember with an 8-1 record. They almost kept an undefeated season alive until UNC spoiled it by coming back late in the 4th quarter of last week's game. The Demon Deacon offense leads the nation in points per game (45.1) and ranks 3rd in total yards per game (520.8). They are converting 51.61% of the time on 3rd down and average 6.7 yards per play. Quarterback Sam Hartman leads the way with 2,873 passing yards and 27 touchdowns with five interceptions. In last week's matchup against UNC, Hartman threw for five touchdowns and rushed for two more, contributing to 42 of his team's 55 total points.
Defensively, Wake Forest gives up 29.1 points on 448.4 yards per game to opponents. Linebacker Ryan Smenda Jr leads the team with 54 tackles and defensive back Travel Redd has three interceptions this season. They just gave up 58 points to UNC, so it will be critical to limit the amount of points against a solid offense in NC State. The Demon Deacons are 5-1 in conference play. At home, they are 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 games.
Final NC State-Wake Forest Prediction & Pick
With the way both offenses have been playing, I am anticipating a shootout on Saturday night in Truist Field. Wake Forest has looked great all season, especially at home where they have won by a margin of 24 points. Also, Wake Forest has not been held to under 35 points in any of their games this year. I believe the game will be similar to last week against UNC where the team with the last possession wins the game. I would side with the home team in this one.
