Why The Cubs Will Cover The Spread/Win

Javier Assad is going through a bit of a rougher patch, but he is still pitching very well on the season. As you can see in the starting pitcher portion of this post, Assad last started against the Reds. He was able to pitch very well in the game, and he needs to do that again. The Cubs used quite a bit of relief pitchers in their last few games, so they need Assad to get deep into this game. As long as Assad continues to pitch as he has been, the Cubs are going to win this game.

Chicago faced Greene last time they played, as well. They were able to draw five walks, and score five runs off him. In the last few games, the Cubs offense has significantly improved, as well. Over their last five games, the Cubs are batting .238 with 14 extra base hits, and they own a .741 OPS. Their lineup has been putting up some good at-bats, and that will continue in this game. As long as they force Greene into the zone, the Cubs will win this game.

Why The Reds Will Cover The Spread/Win

As mentioned, the Cubs were able to score some runs off Hunter Greene in their last game. However, that should be taken with a grain of salt. It was very rainy, the balls were wet, and it was overall not a great day to pitch. It is looking to be a beautiful night in Cincinnati, so Greene should have an easier time pitching in this game. His velocity is going to play to his advantage if he can remain in and around the zone. If his command is good, he will dominate this outing.

The Reds are 5-1 over their last six games, and they are coming off a sweep over the Colorado Rockies. Their bats have been very hot in that span, as well. In those games, the Reds are batting .329, with 22 extra base hits, and a .923 OPS. They are lights out at the plate right now, and they are showing now signs of slowing down. If the Reds can continue to swing the bats well, and hit for power, they are going to win this game and stay hot.

Final Cubs-Reds Prediction & Pick

Javier Assad is pitching well, and he always gives the Cubs a chance to win the game. However, the Reds are hitting the ball well, and they are on a hot streak. For that reason, I am going to take the Reds to win this game straight up Thursday night.
