Why The Dodgers Will Cover The Spread/Win
James Paxton is off to a pretty good start this season. He has made eight starts this season, and he is 5-0. The Dodgers have won seven of his eight starts, as well. In those games, Paxton has a 2.84 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and teams are hitting .233 off of him. Paxton does not have the prettiest advanced stats, but he is constantly finding ways to get people out. In the month of May alone, Paxton has a 1.93 ERA. If he can continue to pitch well and get batters out, the Dodgers are going to win another one of his starts.
The Dodgers have already beat the Reds this season three times. In that four-game series, the Dodgers held the Reds to 12 runs. In the three games they won, the Dodgers held the Reds to five runs. Their pitching was very good, and that was just last week. In fact, Paxton has already shut down the Reds for six innings. If the Dodgers can keep shutting down the Reds, they are going to win this game.
Why The Reds Will Cover The Spread/Win
Cincinnati needs to give Ashcraft some run support in this game. Cincinnati was able to record seven hits off Paxton, and score three runs. The Reds also hit two home runs off Paxton in the loss. They were able to hit pretty well, and the Reds need to do it again in this game. As mentioned earlier, Paxton's advanced stats are not the best. Paxton is under the 35th percentile in multiple categories on his baseball savant page. He allows opponents to hit the ball pretty hard, and the Reds should be able to do so in this game.
Ashcraft needs some run support, but he did pitch well against the Dodgers in his last start. In that game, Ashcraft went five innings, allowed three runs on three hits, and struck out five. The Reds gave him zero runs of support, but Ashcraft pitched well enough to keep Cincinnati in the game. It is not going to be easy, but Ashcraft needs to have another start like that. If he can have another game in which he pitches well, the Reds will win this game.

The Reds have fallen off this season. They are in last place in the NL Central division, and I am not expecting that to change much this season. For this game, I am going to take Paxton and the Dodgers to win. Paxton has pitched well, and the Dodgers have won seven of his eight starts. The Dodgers moneyline is my pick.
