The pieces are working, but they need to get back on track after their recent downward spiral across their two most recent series. The Mets have struggled, so this will be interesting to watch.
The Mets had a complete makeover from last year to this year. They are 22-30 this season and just broke a five-game losing streak over their own. Their bats and pitchers have struggled this season. Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Starling Marte, and Brandon Nimmo have been solid behind the plate despite the Mets' struggles overall. Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, and Jose Butto make up a solid pitching staff. The Mets have struggled this season and it does not seem like much is going to change. They have been inconsistent and are facing the most talented team in the MLB this season.

Why The Dodgers Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Dodgers are starting James Paxton on the mound where he has a 5-0 record, a 3.49 ERA, and a 1.43 WHIP. Through 49 innings, he has allowed 19 runs on 42 hits with 28 walks and 28 strikeouts. The Dodgers are 7-2 in the nine games that he has appeared in so far this season. In his last start, he pitched 4.2 innings and allowed five runs on five hits with four walks and four strikeouts in a Dodgers loss. Paxton has had a very good season for the Dodgers on the mound and gets a favorable matchup against an inconsistent Mets offense behind the plate.
The Dodgers have the most talent on offense in the MLB, but they have dipped a bit recently with a .253 batting average. This is after they finished with a .257 batting average last year, but they somehow have even more talent this season. Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Teoscar Hernandez lead the way in most of the important batting categories. Ohtani leads the way in batting average at .336 and in home runs at 13. Betts then leads the way in OBP at .431 and in total hits at 71. Hernandez also leads the way in total RBI at 38. This is David Peterson's first start this season, so it will be a favorable matchup for a Dodgers offense that needs to get back on track.
Why The Mets Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Mets are starting David Peterson on the mound in this game and he has not started a game yet this season after having hip surgery seven months ago. In his last season, he struggled and had a 3-8 record, a 5.03 ERA, and a 1.57 WHIP. He was last on the mound in September and he pitched seven innings and gave up zero runs on four hits with four walks and eight strikeouts in a Mets win. This is a very tough matchup with the Dodgers and their offense, even with their recent struggles lately for Peterson to come back against.
The Mets have struggled behind the plate. They have a .236 batting average and then they had a .238 batting average last season. Starling Marte, Pete Alonso, and Brandon Nimmo led the way in most batting categories this season. Marte leads the way in batting average at .259 and in total hits at 48. Nimmo leads the way in RBI at 29 and then in OBP at .356. Alonso is then the leader in home runs at 12. This will be a tough matchup against James Paxton for the Dodgers on the mound with how good he has been so far on the year.

The Dodgers have been spiraling and have lost five straight, but they are the better team in this spot compared to the Mets.
