The Los Angeles Dodgers will face the San Diego Padres in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Petco Park. We're here to share our MLB odds series, make a Dodgers-Padres prediction, and pick while showing you how to watch.

The Dodgers are at the top of the National League West standings. Unfortunately, they started the weekend with a thump, falling 2-1 on Friday night in San Diego. They will try to end the series on a high note.

The Padres have climbed to second place in the standings. Amazingly, they went 6-2 over the first eight games to start the month. The Padres hope to overcome the Dodgers on Sunday and gain some more ground in the division.

Walker Buehler starts for the Dodgers. He is 0-0 with a 6.75 ERA. Recently, he went four innings while allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out four in his season debut against the Miami Marlins. Buehler is 2-0 with a 1.52 ERA with 34 strikeouts over five games against the Padres. Now, he hopes to have a stronger second start as he makes his full recovery from Tommy John Surgery, which took him out for an entire year.

Yu Darvish starts for the Padres. He is 2-1 with a 2.94 ERA. Ultimately, he tossed five scoreless innings in his last start, allowing three hits while striking out five in a win over the Chicago Cubs. Darvish has had mixed results against the Dodgers throughout his career. So far, he is 4-5 with a 2.45 ERA over 14 games against the Dodgers.

Why The Dodgers Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Dodgers once again have an explosive offense. Currently, they are the best team in batting average, on-base percentage, runs, and slugging percentage. The Dodgers are also second in home runs. Now, they will face an old foe whom they have become very familiar with over the years.

Mookie Betts will be the focus in the leadoff spot. Overall, he has struggled against Darvish, batting .200 with one home run and one RBI over 39 plate appearances. Shohei Ohtani is the newest Dodger in team. However, he has some experience against Darvish. Ohtani is 1 for 5 against his fellow countryman. Now, he looks to take him deep for a home run.

Freddie Freeman is having another great season. Moreover, he has done well against Darvish. Freeman has a mark of .281 with two home runs and three RBIs over 36 plate appearances against him. Thus, he has found ways to get the ball in play and will look to do it again to give the boys in blue a chance to close out the series strong. Max Muncy has struggled over the last few years. Also, he has not done well against Darvish, batting .218 with one home run and four RBIs over 33 appearances. Will Smith is having a good season. However, he must fix his issues against Darvish, where he is batting .231 with one home run and two RBIs in his career.

The Dodgers have the second-best pitching staff in baseball in terms of ERA. Furthermore, their bullpen has improved by miles, as they are sixth in team ERA.

The Dodgers will cover the spread if their hitters can find ways to make Darvish throw a lot of pitches. Then, they need Buehler to take that next step in his recovery.

Why The Padres Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Padres are solid at hitting the baseball this season. At the moment, they are third in batting average and runs. The Padres are also ninth in on-base percentage and slugging percentage. Likewise, they are eighth in home runs. Their hitters will face Buehler, with some of them having a history against the ace.

Luis Arraez is the new guy in town. Somehow, this will be his first time facing Buehler. Fernando Tatis Jr. is doing all the right things early in the season. Also, he is batting .292 (7 for 24) with three home runs and four RBIs against Buehler. Manny Machado is looking to slam the baseball into the stands. Yet, he has not gotten one against Buehler yet, as he is 6 for 25 with one RBI. Xander Bogaerts is a key piece of this offense. Now, he looks for his first hit against Buehler, as he is 0 for 3.

The Padres have seen their pitching staff take a dip this season. Sadly, they are only 19th in team ERA. The bullpen has produced mixed results. Significantly, they are 16th in team ERA.

The Padres will cover the spread if they find ways to generate big innings early. Then, they need to avoid making mistakes against the fearsome Dodger hitters.

Final Dodgers-Padres Prediction & Pick

The Dodgers and Padres played a low-scoring game on Friday. Overall, both teams can pitch incredibly well. They both have excellent offenses. Yet, much of that has been because of their ability to destroy other teams' pitching staffs. Look for this to become a mini-pitching duel. While we don't expect Buehler nor Darvish to go past six innings, we do expect the bullpens to hold up. This will be a low-scoring game. Therefore, the under hits.
