Why The Giants Will Cover The Spread/Win
Logan Webb is the workhorse for the Giants. He went seven innings in his last start, and that seventh time going at least seven innings this season. It was also his second straight time accomplishing that, as well. Webb also has one of the best chase percentages in the MLB. Webb needs to have a good game in this one, and get the Rangers to extend their zone. If he can do that, the Giants will cover win this game.
The Giants are ninth in the MLB in batting average, seventh in on-base percentage, and they have the fourth-lowest whiff percentage in the MLB. Their offense has been able to do some damage when they are hot. In fact, the Giants hit just a little bit better when they play on the road. They have a tough matchup, but if they can put up some good at-bats, the Giants will win this game.
Why The Rangers Will Cover The Spread/Win
Michael Lorenzen has a sub-3.00 ERA, and he really limits the hits. Lorenzen has an oBA under .200 at home this season. He is not giving up hits, and he is finding ways to shut down opposing teams this season. He needs to do just that in this game. The Giants are batting under .240 in their last 10 games, and they have won just three of those games. With that, the Giants have struck out 79 times, and they are slugging .367. With San Francisco struggling in their last 10 games, Lorenzen and the Rangers should be able to win this game.
Texas does not chase pitches, and they have the sixth-lowest whiff percentage. The Rangers need to make sure they do not chase in this game. They could be without Corey Seager, but the rest of the lineup is more than good enough to get the job done. If the Rangers find a way to get Webb out of the game early, they will be able to cover this spread.
Final Giants-Rangers Prediction & Pick
This is a fun pitching matchup. If both pitchers are at their best, this matchup is going to be very cool to watch. As for a winner, I like what Lorenzen has done this season, and what he has been able to do at home. I will take the Ranges to win this game.
