Why The Giants Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Giants have had a decent offense, ranking ninth in batting average, eighth in on-base percentage, and 15th in runs. However, they are also 21st in home runs and 16th in slugging percentage.
Lamonte Wade Jr. has been injured, and that has not helped this offense. Therefore, others are struggling to keep up. Wilmer Flores is batting .219 with two home runs, 19 RBIs, and 14 runs. Unfortunately, he just has struggled in all avenues this season. Matt Chapman is batting .238 with eight home runs, 28 RBIs, and 40 runs. Also, he entered the weekend hitting .247 with 71 hits, 18 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 52 runs over 78 career games against the Rangers.
Michael Conforto has had a solid season. So far, he is batting .268 with seven home runs, 20 RBIs, and 20 runs. Tommy Estrada has displayed slightly more power. Currently, he is hitting .250 with eight home runs, 32 RBIs, and 33 runs.
The Giants don't have a good pitching staff. So far, they are 26th in team ERA. Their relievers have not been much better. Unfortunately, they are just 24th in team ERA.
Why The Rangers Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Rangers have struggled to defend their championship because their offense has not been consistent. Unfortunately, they are just 14th in batting average, 11th in on-base percentage, 13th in runs, 14th in home runs, and 16th in slugging percentage. Their hitters are healthy. But they just are not producing consistently.
Marcus Semien has been a solid leadoff hitter. So far, he is batting .264 with 10 home runs, 35 RBIs, and 45 runs. Corey Seager remains a force in the lineup, batting .271 with 13 home runs, 30 RBIs, and 29 runs. Additionally, the former Dodger has a batting average of .268 with 80 hits, 11 home runs, 37 RBIs, and 44 runs over 79 games against the Giants throughout his career.
Adolis Garcia continues to mash the baseball, batting .223 with 13 home runs, 40 RBIs, and 30 runs. However, he expects to do much better against the Giants than he has in his career, as he is hitting just .200 with five hits with no home runs, two RBIs, and three runs over 10 games. Rookie Wyatt Langford will face the Giants for the first time. Ultimately, he is hitting just .224 with one home run, 15 RBIs, and 15 runs.
The Rangers have a solid pitching staff, ranking 12th in team ERA. However, things have been tough for their relievers again. Their bullpen ranks just 26th in team ERA.
The Rangers will cover the spread if their offense can turn it on and drive some runs across the plate. Then, they need a good outing from their rotation.
Final Giants-Rangers Prediction & Pick
The Giants came into the weekend with a 30-33 mark and were clinging to third place in the National League West. They were also 3-7 over their past 10 games. The Rangers were 30-32 and struggling to hold onto second place in the American League West. They were also 6-4 over their past 10 games. San Francisco also had a run-line record of 29-34, while Texas had a 27-35 mark. But the Giants are just 1-6 against the spread over their past seven contests, highlighting a great struggle. Consequently, the Rangers likely may be able to capitalize on any mistakes and find a way to cover the spread.
