The Cleveland Guardians will continue this series in the thin air of Denver when they take on the Colorado Rockies. Join us for our MLB odds series where our Guardians-Rockies prediction and pick.
Off to a swift start on the American League side of things, the Guardians are proving that they are a formidable force in the sport. Not only is Cleveland an impressive 36-17 on the year which serves as the best record in the AL. During the opening game of this series, the Guardians surprisingly went down in defeat to the Rockies by a score of 8-6. Regardless, whether it's in the form of offense, defense, or even pitching, Cleveland has already proved that they can do it all. In line for the start in this one will be righty Triston McKenzie who is 2-3 with a 3.44 ERA.
It wasn't too long ago when the Rockies embarked on a surprising seven-game winning streak, but ever since then, Colorado has amassed a 4-6 record and possesses an underwhelming 18-34 mark overall. Nevertheless, the Rockies were able to take two of three from the NL-best Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend and managed to steal game one versus Cleveland giving them three wins against two of the top teams in baseball over the last week. Obviously, this type of pace will be difficult to continue, but crazier things have happened! Getting the start from the mound is projected to be RHP Ryan Feltner who is 1-4 with a 5.07 ERA.

Why The Guardians Will Cover The Spread/Win
At first glance, the biggest strength that exists within this Cleveland roster happens to come in the form of a dangerous pitching staff that isn't afraid of any challenge in front of them. On paper, the Guardians have amassed a 3.30 ERA which is the fourth-best mark in the league. In addition, Cleveland only allows opposing hitters to slash for a measly .230 batting average when stepping into the batter's box. At the end of the day, the Guardians' sturdy pitching prowess may be able to overcome the high altitude of the hitter-friendly Coors Field.
Not to mention, third-baseman Jose Ramirez is once again putting the team on his back thanks to his smoking, hot bat at the plate. Through the team's opening 53 games of the season, Ramirez has accounted for a team-lead 15 home runs and 52 runs batted in.
Article Continues BelowTo put it frankly, Ramirez has been a thorn in the side of many pitchers this season and it should continue against a Colorado pitching staff that has struggled.
Ultimately, Cleveland is coming off three straight series sweeps prior to losing to Colorado and the fact they are the hottest team in baseball may be all that's needed to overcome a porous Rockies squad.
Why The Rockies Will Cover The Spread/Win
Although the odds of the Rockies finding a way to cover the spread and even win are stacked against them, there are a few things that Colorado can do to pull off the massive upset.
For starters, the last-place team in all of the National League must find a way to storm out of the gates in impressive fashion. Indeed, this will prove to be no easy task against a team with the caliber of Cleveland, but as long as Colorado can string together some scoreless innings from the mound and find a way to take the lead, their confidence will shoot through the roof.
Outside of the fact that Colorado will need to hit Cleveland with the first punch, the team's biggest question mark remains with their ability to pitch at a consistent rate of success.
When looking at the raw numbers, not one team in Major League Baseball that struggles as mightily as the Colorado Rockies. Believe it or not, but the ‘Rox owns the worst ERA in the league at 5.17 and also spends way too much allowing runners on-base. Without a doubt, it will be up to Ryan Feltner to keep the Guardians off-balanced and on their toes. Lately,
On a positive note, be on the lookout for Colorado's third-baseman Ryan McMahon to put together some stellar at-bats in this one. Playing at an All-Star level up to this point, McMahon is hands down Colorado's most feared hitter as he is slashing .294 with 10 home runs and 32 RBIs.
