The Guardians make the trip to Chicago to face the White Sox! These two teams are complete opposites this season, with the Guardians being one of the best teams in the MLB and atop the AL, while the White Sox have been one of the worst teams in the MLB and not just the NL. Our MLB odds series has our Guardians-White Sox prediction, odds, and pick for Saturday.

The Guardians have been great this season at 24-13. Their bats have dipped recently and are in the bottom half of the MLB as a unit. In comparison, their pitching has been a top-10 pitching staff. Steven Kwan, Jose Ramirez, Andres Gimenez, Tyler Freeman, and Josh Naylor have carried the Guardians behind the plate, despite their recent dip. Tanner Bibee, Triston McKenzie, and Ben Lively have held down the fort in the pitching staff very well despite their ace, Shane Bieber, being injured and out for a while. The Guardians have been great to start the year and they get a great matchup against a struggling White Sox team on the road.

The White Sox are competing with the Rockies for the title of worst team in the MLB so far this season. They have a 10-28 record so far this season and won the first game in this series to extend their winning streak to two in a row. They are the second-worst team in the MLB behind the plate. They are also struggling on the mound, ranking near the bottom as a pitching staff as well. Gavin Sheets, Paul DeJong, and Andrew Benintendi are standouts on an awful offense, while the only notable pitchers in the lineup are Erick Fedde and Michael Kopech. The White Sox have struggled this season, but they can try and build off winning the first game in this series.

Why The Guardians Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Guardians are starting Triston McKenzie on the mound where he has a 2-2 record, a 3.97 ERA, and a 1.44 WHIP. McKenzie has allowed 17 runs on 28 hits with 21 walks and 30 strikeouts. In his seven appearances, the Guardians are 5-2. In his last start, he pitched five innings and allowed one run on three hits with three walks and six strikeouts for a Guardians win. McKenzie has been very good for the Guardians this season and gets a great matchup with how much the White Sox and their bats have struggled this season.

The Guardians are a very good team behind the plate but have dipped recently. They are 18th in team batting average at .240 after finishing last season with a .259 batting average which was top five in the MLB. The offense is led by Steven Kwan, Jose Ramirez, and Josh Naylor lead the way in most of the batting categories. Steven Kwan leads the way in batting average at .353, in OBP at .407, and in total hits at 47. Josh Naylor leads the way in home runs at 10 and Ramirez leads in RBI so far at 31. They get a good matchup in this spot against Mike Clevinger and how much he has struggled this season for the White Sox in such a brief stint.

Why The White Sox Will Cover The Spread/Win

The White Sox are putting Mike Clevinger on the mound where he has a 0-1 record, a 13.50 ERA, and a 5.00 WHIP in just two innings this season. He got shelled in his lone appearance this season. Through two innings, he has allowed four runs on six hits with four walks and zero strikeouts. His appearance means that the White Sox will also use a good amount of their bullpen, but the whole staff has struggled this season.

The offense for the White Sox has been nothing short of awful this season. The White Sox are 29th in the MLB in team batting average at .212 after having a team batting average of .238 last season. Gavin Sheets, Andrew Benintendi, and Paul DeJong lead the way for the offense in most categories. Sheets leads the way in batting average at .257, in OBP at .364, and in total hits at 28. Andrew Benintendi then leads in RBI at 13 and then Paul DeJong leads the way with five home runs so far this season. The White Sox offense gets a bad matchup in this spot against Triston McKenzie who has been very good for the Guardians.

Final Guardians-White Sox Prediction & Pick

The Guardians are the better team, but the White Sox stole the first game in this series. The Guardians are putting the better pitcher on the mound this season in Triston McKenzie, compared to Mike Clevinger and the White Sox bullpen. This also comes down to who can you trust more behind the plate and the Guardians are getting production from all over their lineup despite a recent dip, while the White Sox have struggled all year. The Guardians should cover and win this game easily.
