The Mets make the trip to Miami to face the Marlins! The Marlins have been one of the worst teams in the MLB this season while the Mets have not been much better overall this season. Our MLB odds series has our Mets-Marlins prediction, odds, and pick for Friday.

The Mets had a complete makeover from last year to this year. They are 19-23 on the season and have lost five of their last six games and three straight overall. Their bats have struggled this seasonbut they have played well on the mound. Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Starling Marte, and Brandon Nimmo have been solid behind the plate despite the Mets' struggles overall. Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, and Jose Butto make up a solid pitching staff. The Mets have struggled this season and it does not seem like much is going to change this season.

The Marlins are in a competition for the title of worst team in the MLB and they currently have a 13-32 record, but they have won two straight games leading into this spot. Their bats and pitching are both ranked near the bottom of the MLB. Their pitching has been worse than their bats, but it has not been good regardless. Bryan De la Cruz, Jake Burger, Josh Bell, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. have been able to stand out despite their overall struggles as a team behind the plate. Ryan Weathers has been okay at best on the mound for a pitching staff that has been one of the worst in the MLB. The Marlins have struggled across the board this season, but the Mets might be the perfect antidote for their struggles.

Why The Mets Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Mets are starting Christian Scott on the mound in this game and he has a 0-1 record, a 2.84 ERA, and a 1.11 WHIP. Through 12.2 innings, he has allowed four runs on 11 hits with three walks, and 14 strikeouts. In his two appearances this season, the Mets are 0-2 in those games. In his last start, he pitched six innings and allowed three runs on six hits with two walks and eight strikeouts in a Mets loss. Scott has been solid for the Mets in his brief time this season and he gets a good matchup against a struggling Marlins offense.

The Mets have struggled behind the plate. They have a .233 batting average and then they had a .238 batting average last season. Starling Marte, Pete Alonso, and Brandon Nimmo led the way in most batting categories this season. Marte leads the way in batting average at .255 and in total hits at 40. Nimmo leads the way in RBI at 27 and then in OBP at .361. Alonso is also the leader in home runs at nine. This will be a decent matchup for the Mets and their offense against Jesus Luzardo.

Why The Marlins Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Marlins are putting Jesus Luzardo on the mound where he has a 0-3 record, a 5.97 ERA, and a 1.33 WHIP. Through 31.2 innings, he has allowed 21 runs on 28 hits with 14 walks and 35 strikeouts. Luzardo has appeared in six games for the Marlins and they have gone 1-5 in those games. In his last start, he pitched 5.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits with one walk and eight strikeouts in a Marlins loss. Luzardo has had a rough year, but the Mets offense will not present much of a challenge overall.

The Marlins' offense has struggled this season especially when compared to last season. They are 26th in team batting average at .225 after finishing last season with a .259 great batting average. The offense is led by Bryan De La Cruz and Jazz Chisholm Jr. now that Luis Arraez is no longer on the team. De La Cruz leads the way in batting average at .256, in home runs at nine, in RBI at 24, and in total hits at 46. Chisholm Jr. then leads the way in OBP at .330. This matchup is not great for them because Christian Scott has been solid, even with limited time on the mound.

Final Mets-Marlins Prediction & Pick

Both of these teams have struggled this season. The Mets come into this game on a losing streak, while the Marlins are on a winning streak. The Mets have the advantage on the mound with Christian Scott over Jesus Luzardo and then their bats are also better than the Marlins as well. The Marlins should keep this game close and cover, but the Mets might still win as the better team.
