It is the final game of an NL East series as the New York Mets face the Philadelphia Phillies. It is time to continue our MLB odds series with a Mets-Phillies prediction and pick.
In game one of the series, it was a ten-inning affair. The Phillies took the 1-0 lead, but the Mets would score two in the second and a run in the third to take the lead. Going into the top of the ninth the Mets led 4-2. Bryson Stott homered to make it a one-run game, and then Alex Bohm was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to tie the game. Stott would hit a sacrifice fly in the tenth inning and the Phillies would win 5-4. Game two saw domination from the Phillies. Aaron Nola went all nine innings, giving up just four hits and striking out eight. The Phillies would go on to win the game 4-0.
The two will play again on Wednesday. IT will be Joey Lucchesi on the mound for the Mets. He will be making his first start of the season in this one on Wednesday. It will be Ranger Suarez on the mound for the Phillies on Wednesday. He is 7-0 with a 1.50 ERA and a .72 WHIP. Last time out, he allowed no runs and just three hits in seven innings of work. In his last 37 innings, over five starts, he has allowed just four runs.

Why The Mets Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Mets are 19th in the majors in runs this year while sitting 20th in batting average and 17th in on-base percentage. Further, the Mets are 22nd in slugging. Brandon Nimmo has led the way this year. He is hitting .221 on the year with a .365 on-base percentage. He has seven doubles, a triple, and six home runs. This has led to 27 RBIs and 21 runs scored. Joining Nimmo in driving in runs is Pete Alonso. He is hitting just .226 on the year but has a .309 on-base percentage. Alonso has eight doubles and nine home runs, leading to 22 RBIs and 24 runs scored.
Meanwhile, Francisco Lindor has been solid this year. He is hitting .204 on the year but with a .272 on-base percentage. Lindor has eight doubles while also having seven home runs. Further, he has 21 RBIs and 23 runs scored on the year. Rounding out the top producers is Starling Marte. He is hitting .260 on the year with a .303 on-base percentage. Marte has six doubles and four home runs, with 15 RBIs. He has also stolen seven bases and scored 20 times this year.
Mets pitching is 11th in team ERA while sitting 21st in WHIP, and fifth in opponent batting average. Jose Quintana will be on the mound for the Mets in this one. He is 1-4 with a 5.44 ERA and 1.55 WHIP. In his last two starts, he has given up 12 runs in 7.2 innings of work. Current members of the Phillies have 134 at-bats against Quintana. They have hit .246 against him with six home runs and 20 RBIs.
Why The Phillies Will Cover The Spread/Win
The Phillies are second in the majors in runs scored, while sitting third in batting average, second in on-base percentage, and fourth in slugging. Alec Bohm continues to be impressive. He is hitting .333 on the year with a .400 on-base percentage. Bohm has 16 doubles, a triple, and four home runs. This has led to 35 RBIs. Bohm has also scored 21 times this year. Driving in runs is something Bryce Harper has done well this year. He is hitting .259 on the year with a .381 on-base percentage. Harper has six doubles and nine home runs this year, leading to his 29 RBIs. He also has scored 23 times.
Meanwhile, Kyle Schwarber and Bryson Stott are also playing great this year. Schwarber is hitting just .218, but that is not abnormal for him. He is getting on base at a .326 rate, with nine home runs. He has scored 32 times and driven in 25. Stott has hit .281 on the year with a .385 on-base percentage. He has five doubles, two triples, and four home runs. This has led to 26 RBIs. Further, Stott has stolen ten bases and scored 23 times.
The Phillies are fourth in team ERA this year, sixth in WHIP, and seventh in opponent batting average. It will be Taijuan Walker on the mound for the Phillies. He is 3-0 with a 4.82 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. Walker has made just three starts this year. In those starts, he has won each one and progressively gotten better. His first start saw Walker give up six runs in 6.1 innings, but get the win. The next time out it was three runs in 6.1 innings. Last time out, it was just one run in six innings. Current members of the Mets have 1-7 at-bats against Walker. They are having just a .206 lifetime, with three home runs and 12 RBIs.
Final Mets-Phillies Prediction & Pick
The Phillies are the better team in this series. The Mets are struggling to score heavily. Further, Jose Quintana has not been great this year for the Mets. Meanwhile, Taijuan Walker has gotten better with each start for the Phillies. This has all the makings of another Phillies win with a dominating pitching performance.
