Why The Giants Will Cover The Spread/Win

Logan Webb will take the mound for the Giants, and he is pitching well his last two starts. He has thrown 13 innings, allowed 12 hits, and given up just 5 runs in those two games against the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers. Those are two tough teams to pitch against, and Webb did it well. He needs to continue in this game as the Giants have a tough matchup offensively against Justin Steele. If Webb can continue to pitch well, and go deep into games, the Giants will be able to win this game.

The Cubs have been bad offensively lately. Since May 1st, the Cubs are batting just .218. Along with that, the Cubs are slugging just .348, and they have scored 3.55 runs per game in that span. In fact, the Cubs scored 6 runs over the weekend against the St. Louis Cardinals, and just one run combined in the two games they lost. Chicago is struggling, and they have their offense to blame. If Webb can pitch his game, the Giants will win.

Why The Cubs Will Cover The Spread/Win

Justin Steele is back to being the ace the Cubs need him to be on the mound. In the month of June, Steele has thrown 18 innings, and allowed just two earned runs. On the season, Steele has a WHIP just over 1.00. This means he has done a great job limiting the base runners this season. In his three starts this month, Steele has a WHIP of 1.17. Steele needs to continue pitching well if the Cubs want to win this game. As mentioned, the Cubs have not been scoring too many runs, so it will be up to Steele if the Cubs want to win this game.

Final Giants-Cubs Prediction & Pick

This pitching matchup is going to trump any offensive production. Now, Webb has been giving up some hits this season, but he is a workhorse, and will pitch around any hit he allows. Steele is doing a good job limiting the baserunners, and I do not expect the Giants to get many baserunners in this game. For that reason, I like the Cubs to win this one straight up. I think they will scratch across enough runs to beat the Giants Tuesday night.
