New York enters this series with a horrible taste in its mouth after getting swept by the Boston Red Sox over the weekend. They are struggling to stay in contention in the AL East and will need a strong series against the Angels if they hope to do so. Los Angeles, on the other hand, snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday.

Why The Angels Could Cover The Spread
The Angels are 37-40 on the season and fourth in the AL West standings. They have really struggled recently as they went 1-4 last week and haven't been able to keep runs off of the board. The Angels are 16-21 on the road this season and without Mike Trout for the foreseeable future, it's hard to imagine that record will improve anytime soon.
The Angels currently average 4.83 runs per game, which is the eighth-best mark in the majors. They've been almost a whole run worse on the road, but still still have one of the most lethal bats in the league in their lineup. Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani launched his 25th home run of the season in Sunday's win against the Rays. The pitching staff has really let this club down, though, as they allow 5.25 runs per game and 5.46 runs per contest on the road.
Los Angeles will turn to Dylan Bundy for the series opener. The Angels right-hander has been horrible this season with a 1-7 record and 6.68 ERA through 13 starts. Bundy is 0-5 with a 6.97 ERA in road starts this season. He is coming off a decent showing, as he allowed two runs during four innings of work against the Detroit Tigers in his last outing.
Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread
The sense around the Yankees is that it is finally time to panic in the Bronx. After being swept by the Red Sox in Boston, the Yankees are now sitting in fourth place in the AL East with a record of 40-37. They are 21-18 at Yankee Stadium this season and could use nothing more than a series victory to kick off this new week. New York is 14-4 in its last 18 home games against the Angels coming in.
New York's offense has been the big issue this season. They are scoring under four runs per game and have the 16th-best team batting average at .235. Aaron Judge has been one of the lone bright spots, hitting .285 with 17 long balls and 40 RBI. The Yankees' pitching staff has kept them afloat with just 3.74 runs allowed per game at Yankee Stadium this season.
New York will turn to Michael King for the crucial series opener. King enters this start with a 0-3 record and 4.05 ERA through 40 innings of work. The young right-hander has made five starts and 12 appearances in 2021. He has been much better at home with a 0-1 record and 2.70 ERA in six appearances at Yankee Stadium. King is coming off a solid start as he threw 4 2/3 innings of two-run ball against the Kansas City Royals last Wednesday.

I expect nothing less than a dominant Yankees performance in the series opener. I understand that this is asking for a lot after what we saw in Boston, but this team plays with a different level of energy in the Bronx. They should enter this matchup with the utmost confidence against Dylan Bundy, who is 0-3 with a 7.91 ERA in four career road starts against the Yankees. The Angels have gone through many struggles themselves, and the edge that the Yankees possess in the bullpen should be the difference.
