Houston, on the other hand, just snapped a four-game losing streak with a win against the Dodgers on Wednesday. Which club will have the edge in this exciting interleague Memorial Day Weekend series?

Why The Padres Could Cover The Spread
The Padres have been absolutely crushing teams over the past few weeks and finally showing why they're a legitimate World Series contender in 2021. San Diego has been tearing the cover off the ball lately. They're currently averaging 4.65 runs per game, which is good for 12th in all of baseball. The Padres are also first in runs allowed per game and second in run differential at plus-1.55. San Diego is hitting .239 as a club and hit almost one home run per game this far.
San Diego will open the series with hard throwing right-hander Dinelson Lamet. Lamet is currently 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA in five starts this season. Lamet has been very effective in an opener-type role as he has gone no more than three innings in any start. The righty has been very effective this month with two earned runs allowed over nine innings of work. Lamet is one of the most electrifying arms in the game and with just a little bit of run support, the Padres will win most games that he opens up.
Why The Astros Could Cover The Spread
The Astros have been fairly up and down to open the 2021 season. They are currently 27-22 on the season and have played much better at their home ballpark. The Astros are 16-10 with a solid run differential through 26 games at Minute Maid Park. The Astros have been pouring it on at the plate as they currently lead the league in runs per game at 5.20. They are also 10th in the league in runs allowed per game and fifth in run differential at plus-1.12. Houston also leads the league in team batting average at .268 and will look to continue its offensive dominance against one of the best rotations in baseball.
The Astros will send out left-hander Framber Valdez for the series opener. Valdez will be making his first start of the 2021 campaign against the juggernaut Padres. The southpaw was 5-3 with a 3.57 ERA across 10 starts last season for the Astros. Valdez finished last season on a high note and will now make his first career start against the interleague foe.

The Padres are on a roll right now and should be faded under no circumstances. They have won 11 of their last 13 games and can't seem to do any wrong. The top pitching staff in baseball is supported by one of the hottest lineups. This series will feature a ton of fireworks on Memorial Day Weekend, but it'll be the San Diego Padres that come away victorious on Friday night.
