The Colorado Rockies take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Check out our MLB odds series for our Rockies Dodgers prediction and pick.
Jose Urena takes the ball for the Rockies, while Mitch White gets the start for the Dodgers.
Jose Urena made four very brief appearances for Colorado in April. This is his first appearance since April 26. Urena did not pitch more than three full innings in any of his April outings.
Mitch White has a 3.93 ERA, but he has pitched only 34 1/3 innings this season. He was used mostly as a reliever in April and May. On May 26, the Dodgers began to use him as a short-length spot starter. White made three starts from May 26-June 7. In those starts, he gave up three earned runs in 14 innings. He was out of the rotation for awhile, but he returned to make another few spot starts on June 25 and 30. In those two starts, he gave up four runs in 8 2/3 innings. White has pitched four to five innings in his five spot starts (May 26-June 30), and he has given up a total of seven runs in those five starts. The Dodgers would be happy if White went five innings and gave up no more than two runs in this game.

Why The Rockies Could Cover the Spread
The Rockies are not facing Tony Gonsolin, who is a National League Cy Young contender. They are not facing Julio Urias, who is one of the better starters in the National League. They aren't facing Clayton Kershaw or Walker Buehler. They are facing Mitch White. They should be able to score a few runs against White, and if they get a good outing from Jose Urena, they will be in great position to win this game. The Rockies won two of three from the Dodgers one week ago. They can certainly grab this game and make sure the Dodgers don't sweep them in Los Angeles. Colorado has played tough, competitive baseball against the Dodgers and Padres in the National League West. This team isn't good — we can be honest about that — but it often puts up a fight against strong opponents. It's hard to figure out, but hey, that's baseball for ya. The Dodgers are also without Chris Taylor, a dependable ballplayer who makes them better.
Why The Dodgers Could Cover the Spread
The Dodgers are winning, but their offense hasn't busted loose this week. Five runs per game is solid, but we haven't seen the Dodgers eviscerate the Rockies' staff. With an untested, unproven Jose Urena on the mound in this game, it's a chance for the Dodgers to score big and make sure Mitch White gets more than enough run support in a spot start. The Dodgers deliver an offensive avalanche every now and then. This is a good spot for one of those explosions against an opposing pitcher who will not inspire fear in any Los Angeles hitter.
Final Rockies-Dodgers Prediction & Pick
The Dodgers have covered the minus-1.5 run line each of the past two nights, so there's no especially good reason to go away from that pick here, other than the simple fact that Colorado is trying to avoid a sweep, and baseball often involves a lot of different results in a season. If you do pick here, stick with the Dodgers. If you stay away from this game, that's a reasonable instinct.
