Why The 76ers Could Cover The Spread
The Philadelphia 76ers have quickly become one of the most competitive teams in the NBA. When the Sixers are fully healthy they are able to compete with any team in the league. Their main issues have stemmed from maintaining their health, in spite of that, they have still had a successful season thus far. Through 71 games they have a winning record of 44-27. They are coming off an impressive seven-point win over the Miami Heat. The Sixers will look to build on that win in another winnable match-up on Wednesday. The Lakers have been underwhelming and vulnerable this season. If Philly is able to take advantage of LA's weak points, then they should be able to come out on top in this one.
The 76ers win over the Heat was impressive. Under ordinary circumstances a win of that margin wouldn't be notable for the Sixers, however, they didn't play under normal circumstances. Philly was without Embiid and Harden in that match, and they still managed to beat a Heat team led by Jimmy Butler. This is a very promising sign for the Sixers. It shows that they are more than just their leaders and that they can lean on their bench when they need people to step up. While having Harden and Embiid available for that game would have been a welcome sight to Sixers fans, the fact that this team achieved that level of success without them is a great sign. Philadelphia should have no problem building on that win in this coming game.
Right now the Philadelphia 76ers look poised to go on a run. As of today, they have zero players listed on their injury report. That means both Harden and Embiid will return to action against the Lakers. If the Sixers were able to beat the Heat, a team arguably better than the Lakers, without their two best guys, imagine how they'll do when they return. The Los Angeles Lakers have arguably been the most disappointing team in the NBA this year. Going into this season many people had the Lakers pegged as favorites to make a deep run in the playoffs, however, after many disappointing performances, LA fans are just hoping their team makes the playoffs. Through 72 games the Lakers have a losing record of 31-41. However, the Lakers are coming off a solid 11 point win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. If LA is able to build on that win in this coming match up then they may be able to pull off this upset. The Sixers are definitely favorites going into this one, but the Lakers may have some tricks up their sleeves. Expect the Lakers to make this game more competitive than anticipated.
This Lakers team has quickly become the LeBron show. In his last three games, the Lakers star has had 36, 38, and 38. LeBron James is the only thing keeping the Lakers ship afloat. LA will lose games even when LeBron has a big night, so if LBJ doesn't perform then the Lakers really don't have a shot. Relying on King James may have been a sound strategy in the past, but this year it isn't cutting. However, as shown in their win over the Cavs, LeBron is still able to carry his team to a win. Anything can happen on any given night, so as long as the Lakers have LeBron you can't really count them out.
Injuries also have stood in the way of this Lakers team. Currently, the Lakers have four players listed on their injury report. Both LeBron and THT are listed as questionable for the match. If LeBron doesn't play then the Lakers really have no shot in this game. Lakers fans should be crossing their fingers hoping that the King remains available for this tough match-up.
