Why The Grizzlies Could Cover The Spread
Memphis is both shorthanded and on a back to back in this spot after winning on the road vs. the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night. Don't write off Memphis however as they found a way to beat the Nets without nearly half of their rotation. Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. have powered the Grizzlies to the No. 4 seed in the Western Conference so far this season as they are beating their preseason expectations to this point.
Memphis vs. the spread
Article Continues BelowThe Grizzlies are 23-15 vs. the spread so far this season and 11-6 as underdogs. Memphis is 8-4 as an away dog vs. the spread, covering four of their last five games overall. This will be a tough spot with the back to back, travel, and Covid absences however. This could be a very difficult turnaround, but the Grizzlies are young and have been resilient all season.
Why The Cavaliers Could Cover The Spread
The Cavaliers have lost both Ricky Rubio and Collin Sexton for the season with knee injuries as their depth in the backcourt has been drawn thin. Darius Garland has had a fantastic season to this point and is out of league health and safety protocols. Rookie Evan Mobley has been outstanding, as has center Jarrett Allen. The resurgence of Kevin Love has also helped as the Cavaliers are off to a fantastic start and sit as the No. 5 seed in the Eastern Conference heading into play on Tuesday. Issac Okoro is also currently sidelined for the Cavaliers and will miss this one, as will Cedi Osman, who is in health and safety protocols.
Cleveland vs. the spread
The Cavaliers are 25-10-2 vs. the spread this season. That number becomes even crazier when you consider the fact that Cleveland has not covered in five of their last six games as they have battled injuries and Covid absences. The Cavaliers are 9-3-1 as favorites this season and 7-2-1 as home favorites. They are 13-5-1 overall vs. the spread at home regardless of being favored or not.
Final Grizzlies-Cavaliers Prediction and Pick
Take the Cavaliers here at home with the rest advantage. Garland being back is huge, and Cleveland should have an edge inside with the presences of Mobley and Allen. Memphis was without much of their rotation on Monday due to Covid issues and could experience the same type of shorthandedness on their roster in this one.
Final Grizzlies-Cavaliers Prediction & Pick: Cavaliers -2.5 (-110)
