Why The Jazz Could Cover The Spread

The Utah Jazz are one of the best teams in the NBA. Through their first 32 games they have managed to win 23 and lose only 9. They have won their last three games, with their most recent victory coming by 4 over the Dallas Mavericks. However, as COVID has swept the league the Jazz have not been unaffected. Utah will need to battle in this game if they hope to win. They should have won by more against Dallas, and that slip could be the first sign of struggles for the Jazz. If Utah wants to win on Monday they need to improve on that performance and step things up.

Utah and Dallas were nearly even across most metrics. The Jazz had a slight edge across the board, however, which is why they were able to hold on to their lead and get the win. Yet, this game shouldn't have been nearly as close. The Jazz are much better than the Mavericks without Luka and they should have been dominant. Their roster was almost fully healthy and they need to do better. One aspect of their game they need to improve is free throws. The Jazz got to the line an astonishing 37 times, but only converted 28 of those attempts. If the Jazz can make their free throws at an even higher percentage then they should be able to bury San Antonio

The Jazz come into Monday's game somewhat handicapped, so they will lean on bench players to pick up the slack. Donovan Mitchell is out for Monday's game and this is a huge blow to the Jazz. Utah was only able to scrape by against the Mavs with Mitchell. Now they will face a red hot Spurs team without their best player. Even though San Antonio has been struggling this season, they are not the team they were at the start. Utah needs to come into this game ready for battle.

Why The Spurs Could Cover The Spread

The San Antonio Spurs may have a poor record, but don't let that be deceiving. Through their first 32 games they only have 14 wins. However, they have managed to win 6 of their last 9 games, with their most recent win coming agains the Pistons by 35. The Spurs have seemed to thrive through this COVID period, but that might change on Monday. San Antonio will face off against one of the best teams in the NBA on Monday. They will need to bring their A-game and get ready for what will hopefully be a very competitive game.

The Spurs absolutely dominated the Pistons in their most recent game. San Antonio made a staggering 51 of their 91 shot attempts. While they were on top across all scoring statistics, what might be even more impressive was the lopsidedness of the assists. The Spurs dished out 39 assists throughout that game, for comparison the Pistons only had 16. When a team is moving the ball and making shots they become nearly impossible to play against. If San Antonio can repeat that ball movement and efficiency then they might just be able to pull off the upset on Monday.

While COVID has been taking over the league the Spurs have managed to remain somewhat unaffected. However, that has changed as one of their best players, Dejounte Murray, has entered the league's health and safety protocols. Regardless, other players have already been stepping up big time on this team and could continue to do so on Monday. Murray did not play in their win over Detroit, and the Spurs still managed to dominate. San Antonio looks really good heading into this match.

Final Jazz-Spurs Prediction & Pick

This is not as easy a pick as it may appear. On the surface this game seems like it should be lopsided, but it only takes a little digging to realize that this might just be a great game. The Spurs have been steamrolling teams lately, and now that the Jazz are without Donovan Mitchell, the stars might just be aligned for San Antonio. This one smells like an upset in the brewing, pick the Spurs to cover and maybe even win this game.
