Both of these teams have had strong starts to the season. The Dallas Mavericks are 9-4 and are coming off a big win over a tough opponent. The Phoenix Suns are 10-3 and also managed to notch a narrow victory in their last game. This should be one of Wednesday's best contests.

Why The Mavericks Could Cover The Spread

The Dallas Mavericks are one of the most competitive teams in the Western Conference. The Mavs have high hopes for this season and are looking to make a deep playoff run. Dallas managed to take down the Nuggets in their last game, winning by 10. This is an impressive victory and the Mavs will look to carry that momentum into another tough game. Dallas is more than capable of competing with and defeating the best teams in the NBA. Expect the Mavs to come into this one ready for a tough game that's going to last all four quarters.
Leading the way for the Mavericks has been Luka Doncic. Against Denver he dropped 23 points, dished out 11 assists, and grabbed 8 boards. However, Luka won't be playing in this game which leaves a big hole that needs to be filled. One possible candidate to pick up some of the slack is Tim Hardaway Jr. Hardaway had 19 points and seven rebounds against the Nuggets. He has proven that he can contribute to this team and will have the opportunity to step up on Wednesday. Expect the Hardaway to turn things up a notch and make up for the lack of their star.
One bright spot for the Mavs has been Kristaps Porzingis. Porzingis had missed some games due to injury but finally appears to be back and playing great basketball. Against Denver the unicorn had his best performance of the season, dropping 29 points and 11 rebounds. With Luka out, the Mavs will turn to their next best player to step up. Porzingis is capable of having a big impact and will need to elevate his play on Wednesday. If Porzingis can have a special night against the Suns then the Mavs could win this one.
Why The Suns Could Cover The Spread
The Phoenix Suns have one of the best records in the NBA. They have been playing very good basketball and it shows. They have won their last nine games and will look to extend that streak on Wednesday. Phoenix just barely managed to take down the Timberwolves, ultimately winning that game by three. They are facing a Mavericks team without Luka so they should be able to take care of business at home. The Suns should be ready for this game and should not struggle too much to get a win.
The Phoenix backcourt has been dominant this season. Chris Paul at point guard and Devin Booker at shooting guard is a very lethal combination. Chris Paul has been having a solid season and continues to elevate the play of all those around him. Booker has been a big scoring threat and a great complementary guard to Chris Paul. This is one of the best backcourt duos in the league and they will look to continue to dominate on Wednesday. Expect the two guards to play great basketball and lead their team to victory.
Down low for Phoenix is Deandre Ayton. Ayton has emerged as one of the premiere big men in the league. He has had to deal with injuries this season but had a good performance in their win over Minnesota. Ayton dropped 22 points and grabbed 12 boards playing over 30 minutes for the first time since October. The big man has a huge impact on games for this team and the Ayton-Porzingis match-up should be a good one. Expect Deandre to try and dominate the Mavs and send the message that he is back.

The line for this one has clearly been adjusted due to Luka's absence. The Mavs are just a completely different team without their leader and it will show on Wednesday. The Suns are a very tough opponent and have the experience to exploit the huge gap that Luka is leaving in Dallas. Expect Phoenix to come out ahead in this one. Dallas will definitely put up a fight, but the Suns should be able to get a win by a large margin. Pick Phoenix to win and cover and get ready to see the true impact that Luka has on this Mavs team.
