The Brooklyn Nets will take on the San Antonio Spurs in an interconference battle on Friday night. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Nets-Spurs prediction and pick.

The talent gap between these two teams is palpable, but this should be an entertaining contest nonetheless. The Nets have been one of the best offensive teams in the league this season behind the star trio of Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving. San Antonio doesn't have anywhere near the sort of star power that Brooklyn boasts, and that's reflected by their record. The Spurs are currently 17-28, which has them just outside the playoff picture in the west. A win over a powerhouse like the Nets could be just what San Antonio needs to kick off a run to place themselves in postseason contention.

Why The Nets Could Cover The Spread

This is a shockingly small spread for the Nets. It's undeniable that they are the far more talented team than the Spurs, and that's usually a big enough factor to win games outright. San Antonio just doesn't have the players necessary to match up with the stars that Brooklyn deploys, even with Durant missing this game. The Nets just beat the Washington Wizards behind a combined 48 points from Harden and Irving, and the Wizards are a much better team than the Spurs are. Expect the Nets to lean on their best players throughout this one.

Brooklyn's defense has been surprisingly good this season, and that should continue in this game. The Spurs own an effective field goal percentage of 52%, one of the worst numbers in the league. San Antonio also has one of the lowest overall shooting efficiency stats in the NBA. Brooklyn only gives up a 43% shooting percentage to their opponents, so the Spurs should struggle from the field in this game.

Why The Spurs Could Cover The Spread

The last time these two teams played, things were much closer than anyone expected. San Antonio played the game without two starters in Derrick White and Doug McDermott, but they took the game to overtime before losing by two points. The Nets did play without Irving, but Durant was healthy for the contest. White and McDermott will both be fully healthy for this game, which should provide the Spurs with a huge leg up over a depleted Brooklyn team.

Durant is not the only key player that the Nets will be missing in this game. Starting center Nic Claxton will likely miss this game because of a hamstring injury, and starting small forward DeAndre' Bembry will probably sit this one out because of a back injury. The Nets are already missing starting shooting guard Joe Harris and starting power forward Paul Millsap because of long-term injuries, so this Brooklyn team will be extremely shorthanded.

Final Nets-Spurs Prediction & Pick

This is an easy pick. San Antonio should cover and has a legitimate shot at winning this game by multiple possessions. Lock in the Spurs and don't look back.

Final Nets-Spurs Prediction & Pick:  San Antonio Spurs: -1 (-110)
