The Phoenix Suns host the Brooklyn Nets Tuesday night in what could be a potential NBA Finals preview! It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Nets-Suns prediction and pick.
The Brooklyn Nets come into this matchup after a close loss to the Golden State Warriors last time out. With no James Harden or Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving dropped 32 points in the 4-point loss and led the Nets to a great comeback. They are now (29-10) on the season but dropped to the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. It's been a bad stretch of games for Brooklyn as the Durant injury has really hurt them.
The Phoenix Suns continue to win games and own the best record in the NBA. They are coming off a 5-point win over the San Antonio Spurs and are (40-9) on the season. If they win out for the rest of the season they could tie the Warriors' all-time wins record. With the way the Suns are playing they could easily win every game, but we all know they won't. This has the makings of being a really good game.

Why The Nets Could Cover The Spread
According to Marc Stein, James Harden is available to play tonight and is listed as questionable. With Irving set to play because it's on the road, the Nets will be as healthy as they can possibly get right now. LaMarcus Aldridge will be out for the rest of the road trip according to head coach Steve Nash. So there will be no Aldridge and Durant against the Suns. Nash will be coaching against the Suns in Phoenix for the second time as a head coach. In the first game, he earned a 128-124 win back in February of last year.
Article Continues BelowThe Nets have a difficult task tonight. Trying to contain the Suns is almost impossible right now because they are playing so well. Irving and Harden must play their best but they have to show up on the defensive side of the floor. The Nets are 4-6 in their last 10 games allowing 115.7 points per game. They desperately need that to change if they want any chance of covering this spread. Phoenix just doesn't lose at home or really at all as they have won 10-straight games. Their 21-5 home record is the best in the NBA but the Nets are very good on the road at 17-7. That is mostly due to the fact that Irving only plays away from Brooklyn. Devin Booker and Chris Paul are hot right now, the Nets must contain them.
Why The Suns Could Cover The Spread
The Suns can't go wrong right now. The major reason for their success comes on the defensive side of the floor. They held opponents to just 104 points per game over this 10-game winning streak. They are also scoring at the exact same rate as the Nets are giving up so that in itself is a great sign. Phoenix will need to try and stip Irving who is coming off a great game against the Warriors. Harden missed the game with a sprained wrist but seems to be cleared to play tonight barring any last-minute setbacks. If the Suns can force Harden to commit turnovers and not let him get to the foul-line so frequently, then Phoenix will be in a position to win this game comfortably.
The Nets come into this game as one of the worst teams in the NBA against the spread. They have an 18-29-1 record compared to the Suns 26-21 record ATS. Both of these teams are in completely different spots right now as the Nets have lost four straight and the Suns can't lose. That doesn't mean it's a guaranteed win for the Suns but I'm having a hard time finding reasons for them to lose. If their defense shows up like it has been then the Suns will cover this spread.
Final Nets-Suns Prediction & Pick
Take the Suns to cover this spread even though it looks like Harden should play. I believe this game will be close for a majority of the game but I think the Suns will pull away late. It's currently a six-point spread and I think the Suns are going to win by that margin.
