The NBA regular season continues with games on Wednesday. The Brooklyn Nets will hit the road and take on the Memphis Grizzlies. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Nets-Grizzlies prediction and pick.

FanDuel March Madness

Both of these teams have had somewhat different seasons so far. The Brooklyn Nets have struggled to be consistent, but are coming off back-to-back wins. While the Memphis Grizzlies have been impressive and have won five of their last six games. This should be an interesting match-up between two good teams that are looking ahead towards the postseason.

Why The Nets Could Cover The Spread

The Brooklyn Nets are one of the best teams in the NBA. Regardless of record or recent trends, when this Nets team is at full health they are one of the toughest opponents a team can face. Their main problems have been around maintaining that competitiveness throughout a season. Through 72 games they barely have a winning record of 38-34. However, Brooklyn is coming off an impressive 8 point victory over the Utah Jazz. So, when we look at the Nets we really need to push their record to the side and evaluate them on a game-to-game basis. Brooklyn looked good in that match-up and will look to bring that same energy into Memphis. If the Nets are able to maintain their high level of play, then they could steal this win on the road.

The caveat with this Nets team is that they live, and die by the performance of Kevin Durant. Now that Harden is gone, and Ben Simmons remains unavailable, Brooklyn is basically just KD and whoever else is on the floor. In their win over the Jazz, KD dropped 37, in the win prior he had 38. So, needless to say, when KD does well this team tends to do well. However, this type of structure is a double-edged sword for a team and it's tough to consistently win games when relying on one player. But for the purposes of a single game evaluation, Brooklyn should feel good about their chances, knowing they have possibly the best player in the NBA at the wheel for this team.

The biggest reason this Nets team hasn't seen more success is because of injuries. Currently, Brooklyn has five players listed on their injury report. Of those injured players, only Seth Curry is questionable for Wednesday's game. Curry has actually become a solid contributor for Brooklyn, so if he is absent in this match-up, the Nets will notice.

Why The Grizzlies Could Cover The Spread

The Memphis Grizzlies have done surprisingly well this season. Through 72 games they have been dominant and have a record of 49-23. Memphis has managed to gain momentum and keep it going as we have gotten late in the season. The Grizzlies are coming off a 24 point win over the Houston Rockets. Memphis had control throughout that entire game and will try to bring that same energy and momentum to a tougher match-up on Wednesday. The Nets are a tough team to face, but they are far from invincible. The Grizzlies have had much more success than Brooklyn this season and have looked like a better team. This should end up being a very competitive game.

In their win over Houston, Memphis put in a performance where they dominated every single quarter. The Grizzlies outscored the Rockets in all four quarters and won that game by a large margin. While the Rockets are a far worse opponent than Brooklyn, to win in that fashion is still impressive. They put in the same type of performance in their win over Indiana. The Grizzlies have just been steamrolling teams. Minus their recent loss to the Hawks, the Grizzlies have been destroying teams. Wednesday will be an interesting test for Memphis to see how they handle a tougher opponent.

Even with all of their success, the Grizzlies are still suffering from injuries. Currently, Memphis has two players on their injury report, both of which are listed as out for Wednesday's game. Most notably, Ja Morant, who missed their last game, will be missing this matchup against the Nets. The Grizzlies without Ja just aren't the same team. While they managed to put in a great performance against the Rockets, it's tough for a team to play without their leader. It will be very interesting to see how they adapt and continue to overcome his absence.

Final Nets-Grizzlies Prediction & Pick

This is not an easy pick. Whenever there is such a close spread it's indicative that a game could really go either way. If Ja was playing then I would give the edge to the Grizzlies, but his absence is what really tips the scales. The Nets have looked solid lately, and while they may rely heavily on KD, there is no better player to rely on. Pick the Nets to win and cover.
